with high quality speakers, should my laptop be @ 100% volume, or should it be at like 50% and the volume of the speakers higher?

I'd say go with whatever sounds better. Intuitively, it seems as though the latter should be better....

Do you use a soundcard? Typically i like the source to be louder. such as the computer being louder and the spearkers quieter, however typically i tend to do about 50/50. The sound is only going to be as good as your weakest componant. by having your computer output volume low, your speakers are going to be amplifying that signal. Thats why i suggust having yoru computer louder... however, i tend to stay away from full volumes as sometimes the sound can get distorted.
