I trust Christopher Nolan's direction of the series. Batman Begins is easily my favorite superhero/comic book movie(right up there with the spiderman series).

I'm sure they auditioned tons of actors for the role, and they must've seen something in Heath that they liked, I'm psyched!

Now for them to cast Harvey Dent. There are a lot of actors in the running for that role as well.

Jude Law, Guy Pierce, Hugh Jackman, Jack Gylnnhall.

Yeah, Jack Nicholson played that role perfectly. I hated BATMAN BEGINS. It just didn't live up to the other ones. Not as much action.

Edit: Just looked it up and it doesnt seem to be announced yet, but they said they heard it from a very reliable source.

Ok stepping over my annoyance for the fact that they're redoing the Joker movie... Heath Ledger?!?! As the Joker?! Get out of here. Perhaps 20 years down the road but he doesn't have the acting chops for this yet.

Bumpage of the batman thread so no one can do a 180 on the Joker/Heath Leadger in the new film.

I have been following the news about it's production and first off some major casting news you might already know

Arron Eckheart as Harvey Dent
Maggy Gylnnhall is replacing Katie Holmes as Rachel Dawes

It also appears the main basis for the storyline is from the comic The Long Halloween, and Batman: Year One look it up on wikipedia if you are interested to see more.

Also some casting sides were released today for the film, and they show off the Joker in a few scenes. Sides are short script scenes posted so people can audition for the minor roles in the film.

Judging from the minor plot details, and dialog it looks like they are going to blow away the first movie and give the Joker the portrayal he truly deserves.

spoilers abound if you click on.

the names have been changed to try and hide the plot but it looks like these are the major players included in the sides.

Chief - Gordon
Gannon - Dent
Avenger - Batman
Kennedy - Wayne
Prisoner/Voice/Masked Thug - Joker

looks like the scarecrow is returning also. I'm also guessing the Lau character is the Black Mask, an arms dealer to The Joker and the Mob. Judging from a quick read of this it looks like we have a pretty complex plot with Mobsters vs Freaks(jokers gang) vs Police vs Batman vs Vigilantes

on the joker, his appearance and the character in general
The rumors suggest that the joker is going to be deformed/scared to give himself a scar. Maybe like the Black Dahlia. Also the character is not going to have a comedic sense to him, he is going to be a dark sinister psychopath. A comic book's artists conception of how the joker might look in the film

We saw the preview in theaters before I Am Legend on Saturday - have to say it looked pretty awesome. I may have to eat my words!
