I am the most diehard sox fan in the world, but I hereby deem that if they get shut out tonight, (no-no into the ninth right now) I will personally boycott the rest of the season until they make a deal that will make them better. if the deal doesn't happen, neither will NESN be on my tv until April.
seriously, to all the Sox. You are becoming an embarrassment. Start playing. Now. |

Brandon Moss + Craig Hansen + Manny Ramirez + $7million for Jason Bay.

| That was the dumbest move the Sox could have made. Manny plays right field w/ the monster better than anyone else will, and only maybe ARod and Cabrerra can match his ability to hit. Sorry if the world champs miss the playoffs and the rays and yanks get in. I bet they lose at least 3 to 5 games due to Jason Bay playing the monster. |

manny plays left field, for one, and for two, the monster is overstated. seriously. it shortens left field and if you have a slight knowledge of geometry, a ball of the wall doesn't take a genius to play.
plus Bay has a cannon for an arm, so there's that.
The triangle on the other hand, is the hard position to try to play at Fenway. Left field? Come on now.
Is Bay's long term bat going to be as effective as Manny's? Hell no. But is Bay going to run out ground balls, play with a "hurting knee" and be good to have in the clubhouse? Hell yes.
That's not a dumb move. A little expensive, but not dumb. |

I said it before they traded him, and I'll say it again: the Red Sox will not win the AL East. The Yankees are coming on strong now, when it counts, and I think they will be dangerous in late August/early September.
And the Cubs just did absolute work on the Brewers. 4.5 up on the Cardinals and 5 up on the Brewers. |

Well not only are you being a little hasty on counting out the Sox, but let's not forget about the Rays either. Granted, age and lack of experience may play a huge role down the stretch, but until they give us some reason to believe they aren't serious, you, at the very least, can't count them out.
I'm looking at today like '04. Addition by subtraction. There was a cancer in the clubhouse before the deadline, he got traded for people who, at that time, weren't nearly as highly regarded, but yet they went on a massive run, almost took the east, and won the whole thing. Look for a similar thing to happen now.
Brew Crew I believe is going to make a run. They made the best deadline acquisition because they moved early to accommodate the fans. They think they can make a run at it, and there's no reason to think they won't. The cubs started off strong, but history is probably going to repeat itself. They didn't do anything to improve, they're playing bad right now, and despite what they did tonight, they still have three against Milwaukee.
It's going to be an interesting two months in both of our divisions for sure |

You're right..left field...I knew what I meant , but there is no way that this pays off. So Manny didn't run out a ground ball he was easily out on. Hate to tell you but a lot of guys don't run them out like they should.
All of this cancer talk is BS. Manny still showed up and put up numbers day in and day out even with the off the field drama. I definitely wouldn't count on them winning the AL East, and I find it hard to believe they'll even take the Wild Card after watching them get handled by the Angels. |

I don't understand why people keep saying this. Please refer to exhibit A.
The stats Line:
Manny: .299 avg 20 HR, 68 r.b.i. 66 runs
Bay: .282 avg, 22 HR, 64 r.b.i. 72 runs
now when you adjust it from N.L. to A.L. things might change, but keep in mind he's been putting up these numbers for the worst team in history. Put him in a pennant race on a high market team and who knows what he can do. But manny is on the decline, and Jason Bay is hitting the peak of his career.
And btw, mark my words, Manny is looking for a 100 million 4 year contract next year. The Yanks love overpaying for washed up, has-beens and Manny has to spite the Sox now. Say hello to your 2009 left fielder. |

| I don't necessarily think the move was bad long-term for the Red Sox, but it's going to hurt their playoff chances this season. |

just noticed this post. Yeah, I knew they had a four game set with Milwaukee, but for some reason I thought it STARTED on a thursday and was a weekend series, but it in fact ended on thursday. My B.

See, people that aren't from around here don't really understand this trade. If you are going strictly on paper, you're right, Bay is not Manny. But this wasn't about an upgrade. You say it hurt their playoff chances this season, but that is assuming that Manny was not Manny, and just came out, played to his potential every single day and did not cause any problems for the rest of the season.
That wasn't the case. Not only was Manny not playing to his potential, faking injuries to get out of games, telling his teammates that he was thinking of not playing till the Kansas City series and all this other horse shit, but he was becoming a complete catastrophe in the clubhouse and the organization in general.
Just off the top of my head, I know he bitch slapped Youkilis, pushed his 65 year old traveling secretary to the ground, told red sox management that he didn't think they were being straight up with him, sat out the first game in the biggest series of the season, took a three pitch strikeout looking with the game on the line in a HUGE game to spite the Sox for fining him, and topped it all off by saying that the Red Sox did not deserve a player like him.
His teammates stopped backing him and they lost focus. They lost it to the point where they went to Terry and went to Theo and said, for the good of the team, he needs to be traded. So no, Bay is not the hitter Manny is, but this is about morale and a change that needed to be made. He's not hurting their play off chances and I next to guarantee they go on some sort of tear in August. You heard it here first folks. |

I love how both chicago teams made it in for the first time in a hundred years and then they both just immediately fell apart. Granted, the white sox were doomed. they had to play their asses off just for a berth and they never got a chance to set their rotation, but your cubbies have no excuse.
Victor, Aramis, Alfonso, Derrek, etc, etc, they have no reason to be in this situation whatsoever. It's no billy goat either: it's lack of character and determination |
