Quote:
MSNBC is reporting that drummer Travis Barker is in critical condition following a plane crash. The Lear 60 aircraft was departing an airport in Columbia, South Carolina late Friday night when traffic controllers reported seeing sparks from the vehicle. The jet reportedly failed to lift off, went off the runway and crashed into a nearby road. The Learjet was headed to Van Nuys, California. CNN has an image of the wreckage.

Two crew members, and two passengers on board were killed while two others were critically injured, including Barker. He was transferred to a burn center in Augusta, Georgia and is listed in critical condition as of this morning. The other injured party was DJ AM, real name Adam Michael Goldstein. He is also in critical.

The deceased have been identified as pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, along with passengers Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles.

Travis Barker is currently the drummer for Plus 44 and previously played in both the The Aquabats and most famously Blink 182

funny how that works. I bet a lot more is going to made of the two performers getting injured than the four people that died too.

That's so sad =(. Blink-182 was an amazing rock band. Too bad they haven't had anything new lately.

Ahh...the good ol' punk-pop rock bands.

Just a guess, but it might have something to do with the fact that they split a couple of years back.

no.

the only redeeming thing about that shitty band was Travis' innovative drumming. He took crappy three chord punk and put some really creative rhythms over them.

That band was shit.

Angels and Airwaves is way better and Travis Barker was way too good a drummer to be dealing with those talentless clowns. Hopefully he comes out of this and finally finds a project where he can put his talents to good use.

I tend to agree with you that Travis Barker was the best musician of Blink, but you cant deny blinks fans and credibility by saying they are just not good musicians. they were not shit. They were one of the most influential bands of the 90's and still are today. And even though i think Tom Delonge is a big D-bag, AVA is still pretty good (though they are a modern day U2 rip-off).

Travis Barker is, IMO, the best drummer out there. you can see that by how he is able to take 3 chord punk harmonies and make the beats amazing. He based his drumming and started with Jazz drumming, which also IMO is one of the most complicated styles to drum.

None the less, Its sad how 4 deaths get overlooked by 2 celebs being saved. However, it would have been a HUGE loss to drummers and music in general if Barker would have died.

I agree that he is good an innovative, like I said, but I think you might be giving him a bit more credit than he deserves.

He's not the best drummer out there. If you put Danny Carey or Carter Beauford or even the guy from Dream Theater or Shadows Fall against him, he's getting his ass beat.

It would be a loss though because all in all, it is refreshing to see some sort of musical competence come from a genre that is generally an instrumental disaster.

Awwwwww...damn, DJ AM just can't get a break...

As for Travis, I'm going out to his family...all 8 of the little tots running around. But Travis is a GREAT drummer, I wouldn't say the best in the world, but he's definitely in the top 5, to me.

Any drummer who doesn't need the cym clashing on every beat is a good drummer to me!

Enema of the State was the first CD I ever bought.

I should get a hold of a copy of that. Would be nostalgic.

Tom Delonge was one of my main influences when I first started guitar way back then. Thought, it was pretty damn easy stuff to play, it was sure fun to crank up Enema of the State in my bedroom and jam to it. Speaking of nostalgia, I should do that again. Would for sure bring back some good times.

The first CD's I actually bought were from BMG music, that thing where you get 12 cd's for like a dollar and then have to get 3 more throughout the year. Dude Ranch was my first pick of the 12.
