| Of the phones listed as prizes on the front page of YourCamera4free, which would you say is the best. I am going for one, but not sure which. I was thinking the Sony A200W. Thoughts.... |

Phones? I guess you mean cameras.
Of those, only the Nikon D40 and Sony A200 are DSLR's, so that would eliminate the rest from consideration unless you want a point & shoot.
I'm a Nikon D80 owner so I tend to be partial to Nikons. The D40 is fine for a starter camera but is a bit too limited for my tastes. The Sony gets great reviews and includes image stabilization in the camera body rather than the lens, and it's 10.2MP rather than the D40's 6MP. Of course I'm assuming its requirements are higher too, but I haven't compared the prices. I know it's on the low-end of the Sony Alpha line now that the new models are out. I almost bought the 1st gen Alpha A100 when it came out and I was in the market for a DSLR, but then I-Deal shipped me a D80 and I've been quite happy with it. |

| Of the cameras listed, it's hard to pass on the D40, assuming it comes with the kit 16-55mm lens. I don't think you could find one for less than $400 except from a gray market dealer, so if you're looking for a camera, from that site, I'd pick the D40. |

TTGP - is it the 50-200 VR? If so, that's a sweet deal. I got the Nikon D40 with those two lenses for $750 about a month ago. I have to say, though, that I wish I had the 18-200 VR instead of the two lenses, changing them is a pain and means I have to carry more stuff, but that lens is pretty expensive.
Twon - I can only say what I know about the D40 as I haven't tried the others. I love it so far. It's easy enough to get started on that a beginner like me isn't totally lost, but it has the capability to take me a lot farther in my learning process. Check out http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/recommended-cameras.htm for his thoughts on that camera. |

Sounds like a good deal to me if it's new and not gray market (and even gray market isn't necessarily bad, you just may not get warranty support). Especially if it's the 55-200mm VR lens, which runs about $50 more than the non-VR 55-200mm.
Again, I'm pro-Nikon and like their gear. Canon as well. But from that list, IMO the Sony A200 is "more" camera assuming the requirements are the same as the D40. Owning a D80 and seeing the limitations of the D40, it's hard for me to be enthusiastic about it, but I know it is a popular camera. In it's price range, it's probably the best camera on the market. The Sony Alpha's are pretty impressive though, and the 1st gen A100 beat out both Nikon and Canon to win Popular Photography's Camera of the Year for 2006 (or was it 2007?). I was pretty close to buying it when my D80 happened along.

Same here, I wanted the 18-200mm VR but couldn't justify the $600 at the time. In hindsight, I wish I had just bitten the bullet and done it. The 55-200mm is a great lens and 1/3 the cost, but as you said changing lenses on the go is a pain. I always seem to have the wrong lens on when a shot presents itself. |
