$450 received, with $0 taken by PayPal, which is a nice change from their communist standards.

Communist standards....like free accounts right? Heh...they only take a [very small] percentage if you have a Business Premier account...which is their way of basically having you pay for how much you use it. Still, it's a great deal and by no means "communist."

Which account do you have that you got no fees deducted? Or is that just the way OC payments work (no fees)? Thanks!

the upgraded account is better cuz you can get money from people with credit cards and stuff

With the Personal account, PayPal will not take any percentage of payments received. However, if you receive more than $500 in one month's time, they will force you to upgrade to accept the payment. pcmsurf is right, though, if you upgrade you can accept credit card payments where as with the personal account you can do nothing but decline the payment.

How much is the upgrade?

Free. The "fee" for membership is the percentage they take from incoming payments.

It's not that much worse than any small business/person can get taking credit card payments, and you don't have to set up a merchant account too. I've written back-ends for several applications that take credit cards, and I can tell you that doing all the stuff to accept them is a total pain in the ass. You have to work out a merchant account with your bank, then get a gateway set up. And all of it has to be secure... in really, the PayPal fee isn't that bad.

Now... the fact that they aren't a bank and act like one is a rant for a different day.

Not bad. Thanks!

Yeah, but PayPal has a history of locking accounts and not giving back money.

I'd much rather have my money in a CD or a MM at the bank. Or what I actually do, which is invest it all in stock because I'm young and can take the risk.

All right, let me clear the air a little bit. First off, I was not referring to OC as having communist standards; I was referring to PayPal, and it was a joke.

Secondly, I know OC doesn't determine how much money is taken; it's obiously from PayPal end.

And finally, I have had a premier business account for quite some time now, and I have had money taken from OC/PC/all sites, up until this new OC PVP transfer. For example, PayPal took $5 of my $275 from OC mp3players, and two days ago took $4.94 of my $160 from PC Consoles.

So, my thinking is that since PayPal charges to receive cc payments, OC must have been using credit cards to send their PayPals before, and maybe a lot of people complained, causing them to recently switch to some other method.

Who knows. Anyway, cheers.

I have the account where they take a percentage out of payments, but when I received payment from a company for writing an article, they didn't take any fees out. I was wondering why that was.
