42" Plasma TV (Who's it from?)

I just got a 42" Plasma TV but I have no idea who it's from. shock

I did the ConsumerSavingCentre site but they said I was DQ'ed and they gave me a $100 cheque and I also did the e-ResearchGroup site for the 42" Plasma but I only just got to the period when it was supposed to be shipped and this was shipped before then (May 23rd).

It has a huge, fuck off hole in the side of it so it's clearly refurbished but the packing slip doesn't show who it came from. The delivery guys were cool and I told them how I got it so they were on their way home to click on all the Ads that kept popping up when they got online and one of the guys wants to buy it from me for $2,000. lol

That looks like the tv other people who did an Nuitech site got.
It cant be YFdirect cause they send LG's....
Maybe you should ask trish at A4Scam....

Dude.. that's hilarious... How funny would it be if it were from Trish and they sent it to shut you up....

Didn't they have panny's on their site... I still don't know which one I chose. The hole appears to be from shipping... I used to work on a Dock... we had HOLY boxes all the time. I hope you verified that the screen wasn't cracked.

I can't remember what I chose on their CSC site, but I highly doubt they'd send it to me to shut me up. Even if this isn't from Trish's site, I'm still pursuing legal action if I have to get my TV/cheque from them. It's like DQ'ing me on FreeiPods.com for creating multiple accounts but sending me a Laptop from Laptops.Freepay. roll

I haven't taken it out of the box yet but when you shove your hand through the hole you can feel the TV inside and it doesn't seem to be cracked.

It could be that your account was updated to "shipped"
after they had already shipped your TV. When I got my 42 inch
plasma from YF direct, my account wasnt updated to "shipped"
until a week after the plasma was at my house shock

Edit Looks like i was right... someone in another forum reported getting a 42 inch plasma from Ideal today... but they said it was from CSC....
maybe both sites offer the same plasma? shrug

I don't think I-Deal update your account status but the only NuiTech site I've ever done was for the 6 offer iBook. I've never done a YFDirect site.

Since I know nothing about HDTv/EDTV, Plasma's etc is this worth keeping?

I read some reviews on Amazon and it's supposed to be really good but it has no speakers, no TV tuner and no stand. I don't watch much TV nd certainly nothing HD. I watch a lot of movies and play games though and it sounds like this would be fine for that.

Also, apparently there's others who are getting theirs so how likely is it that this is from CSC and not E-ResearchGroup?

From the other postings on A4F it looks to be from CSC.

Being a geek who cares about such things, I'm a bit pissed at the EDTV thing. If you've never had HD you probably won't care, but I have HD service now and want at least 720p. EDTV is 480p resolution -- half that of HD. Yeah, it looks good compared to a regular SD picture, and many might not be able to tell the difference. But I'm used to looking at a 60" SXRD 1080p picture upscaled from a 1080i source, so I'll be able to see it. (

The only problem is that I thought it was HDTV until I got online and now know it's only EDTv and therefore not worth as much. I couldn't sell the delivery guy the TV for $2,000 when he could buy it brand new for $1,500 or so. (

I have a feeling she hasn't been around because the TVs/Checks are being sent out, and most of the newer questions have been stupid ones (as opposed to the older stupid questions).

I also think she doesn't know the difference between EDTV and HDTV and doesn't give everyone here enough credit to know. That's not a slam against her or the site - but it's possible that as far as she and the site are concerned, people are getting 42" TVs so they should be happy.

But maybe i'm wrong.

That's most likely the case -- they probably requested quotes for a "42-inch Panasonic Plasma" and that's the lowest quote they got. They probably thought "Hey! Awesome deal - we saved $800 over what we budgeted!" with no thought as to what they were actually buying. I've worked with purchasing agents before, and much of the time they have no idea what they're buying.

I took it out of the box (you can actually access the TV without leaving evidence that you've opened the box) just to take a peek, but I haven't powered her up. More than likely I'll be selling it to a buddy of mine...it's a good-looking TV though. This was the one the same model that people whined about when it was sent in place of the Sony... They said it didn't have a Stand or speakers... and our friends at YFDirect decided to not offer it anymore... and it caused huge delays in future shipments.

IMO I don't think anyone should complain... like someone stated... The fact that they sent anything is a miricle...

The retail price for this is 1699.00 on PC Connect by the way... you can't complain about that...

I mean you could...

But I'd hate you for it.

I have this model plasma (bought it with a 2k visa giftcard from rewardsvenue) and it is awesome. HD content looks great on it and if you are mainly watching DVD's (all of which are ED content) this plasma is perfect. It sucks that it doesnt have a tuner, a stand or speakers, but if you have a cable box you dont need a tuner, if you have a receiver with speakers, you dont need built in speakers and if you have $40 you can buy a stand on ebay. Overall it is a solid plasma, but that hole in the box looks pretty rough....

Very true of UPS/FedEx, but these are shipped freight, not UPS/FedEx/common carrier, for the very reason that they're supposed to be better equipped to handle and care for packages this big. Even my 27" Sony Vega CRT was shipped by freight carrier from Crutchfield several years ago. I also had my 60" SXRD shipped freight from Crutchfield and it arrived in pristine condition -- the little shock sensor on the box wasn't even activated.

Unless the vendor shipped it like that -- highly unlikely -- I think I'd be tempted to have the carrier replace it. I know it's free and all, but I'm just anal about the condition of my stuff, and that would totally bug the crap outta me to see it arrive like that. I'm just concerned that TSJ signed for the delivery -- I've always been told that you inspect the shipment while the carrier is on the premises, and if you sign for it and accept it, they are no longer liable for replacement. With my SXRD, even though the box was in perfect shape, I still made him wait (he even helped me) open it up and inspect the TV itself for any signs of abuse or damage. He told me if I saw anything that bothered me, for me NOT to accept it and he'd load it back up on the truck.

Hopefully the guy noted the damage on the BoL like he told TSJ. Maybe he'll still be covered with that.

This TV has Component, S-Video, and Composite BNC inputs. It also has a VGA input.

No HDMI because it isn't HD, and no coax (assuming you mean cable/RF coax) because it has no tuner. It's just a monitor.

TSJ would you mind taking a pic of the inputs? D[/quotebab4c2bae9]
This TV has Component, S-Video, and Composite BNC inputs. It also has a VGA input.

No HDMI because it isn't HD, and no coax (assuming you mean cable/RF coax) because it has no tuner. It's just a monitor.[/quotebab4c2bae9]

thanks for the info.... however my LG EDTV has hdmi ;) (cant wait to get my ps3 and put it to use D )

Well, the Panny EDTV that TSJ has supports optional plug-in boards with all sorts of inputs, and there liisli one available with HDMI. I think it's like $185 though, certainly not worth it for EDTV, IMO. I'm kinda surprised anybody would build HDMI ports into an EDTV, it just seems like such a waste. I guess so they can still handle the DRM whenever it rolls out.

The retail price for this is 1699.00 on PC Connect by the way... you can't complain about that...[/quoteab7a2b93f0]

It still bothers me, though, since the picture on the site clearly shows a TV w/ stand and built-in speakers, not a monitor. I just scanned the TOS and I don't see anything there either where it says they have the right to change the gift offer or that the photo may not represent the actual gift, but I could've missed it somewhere. It would be (and is) different if they don't have the original gift advertised available anymore and they let you know that up front and offer a choice of replacement with the same value, i.e. a check or similar model. Just my 2 cents.

Man... you're going to be the best Son ever if you give that to your dad... Be sure to let him know it's a Father's day Gift and he's the best dad ever...

He'll bend over backwards for you for the rest of your life.
