It most likely will have hdmi, which you can just use a dvi to hdmi cable to get it to work. Both the Ed and HD models have a digital input.

You see I would do it as well but I can imagine family members wondering where I got money to buy a plasma TV...

kyks17

20-02-2006 14:33:28

why not tell them it was free? then all u needed was the offer money which is very little compared to the price of the thing.

u know whats annoying about it? if u watch it in 43 ratio, or "set by program" (which it seems to pick 43 no matter if it was a widescreen movie or a videogame O_o), it has GREY bars on either side of the picture, instead of black. very distracting. im not sure its sumthing that can be changed either, cuz in the manual it says "43 ratio with grey bars" (

kt006

Even if there is a way to change it you are better off with grey. Lighter colors like grey or white are less likely to burn in as Black.

The sony plasma was just a monitor. No tuner, no speakers, no stand.

oh, well i was thinking like when u watch a movie and its widescreen and it dusnt fill the whole screen...the top and bottom arent even used, its the same as if its off (at least it had zero change from being on to off).

20-02-2006 16:44:59

yea but it shouldn't have the gray bars on the widescreen movie should it? What is the point of it being a widescreen then?

I think somewhere in the settings you can change the screen...

Theres different types of widescreen. Even with a widescreen tv some dvds might still have big black bars. Here are the common aspect ratios
1.331 A standard television set; roughly equivalent to 43.
1.371 Referred to as the academy aspect ratio. The standard for films shot before the mid-1950s.
1.661 A bit wider than a standard TV, but not by much.
1.781 The dimensions of a widescreen television set; roughly equivalent to 169.
1.851 Popular aspect ratio for many movies.
2.35 Another popular aspect ratio for movies.

its got a bunch of diff ratios. has 169, something i cant remember but it didnt fit anything i tried, "zoom 1" which is wat i always ended up picking, cinema zoom which lets u zoom in farther, set by program, and 43. all of them but the last 2 put black bars on top n bottom if the movie didnt fill it all up. weird how they would use black bars for that and grey bars right n left...

and theres ketchup next to it cuz my roommate was eating

You should NEVER have any black/ gray bars - you can always toggle it to fit

the only way to get rid of them on an anamorphic disc is to cut off part of the actual video, since its wider-screen than the tv. and thats no fun heh
