The grocery store chain by me now has their own chain of gas stations. Their promotion is to offer $.10 off per gallon for every $50 you buy in groceries which can be accumulated. Mommy and daddy had been saving diligently and today my mom and I went and filled up our cars for next to nothing. For some reason they still charge you 1/10th of one cent even when you have enough discount. See the attached image 8)

Holy shitake mushrooms, $27,000+ worth of groceries? Wow. Can you re-use the reciepts? Or duplicates? XD Surely there must be a way around the system seeing they're not on a national scale.

I hope you guys take into consideration its .10 per gallon, not only 10 cents

Rough calculations are around 1000-1200 in shopping.

This is correct. For every $50 you spend in groceries, you get $.10 off per gallon for up to 30 gallons. So, to get the discounted gas they spent roughly $1100 in groceries. The grocery store chain is called "Giant Eagle" and the gas station chain is "GetGo".

I'm suprised no one commented on still paying $0.02 even with the discounts. I think this is probably something that has to do with a fuel tax, perhaps when you see that gas is $2.09 a gallon and 9/10 of a cent (9/10 helping with taxes?).

From Wikipedia
United States of America

The first U.S. state tax on fuel was introduced in February 1919 in Oregon. It was a 1 cent per U.S. gallon (0.3¢/L) tax. In the following decade, all 48 U.S. states and the District of Columbia introduced a gasoline tax, and by 1939 an average tax of 3.8¢/gal (1¢/L) of fuel was levied by the individual states.

While state fuel taxes had been around for more than a decade, the first federal gasoline tax in the United States was created on June 6, 1932 with the enactment of the Revenue Act of 1932 with a tax of 1 cent/gal (0.3¢/L). The U.S. federal gasoline tax as of 2005 was 18.4¢/gal (4.86¢/L), and the gasoline taxes in the various states range from 10 cents to 33 cents, with an average about 22 cents per U.S. gallon (5.8¢/L). Unlike most goods in the U.S., the price displayed includes all taxes, rather than being calculated at the point of purchase.
