I am so excited to get my first Mac in many years! My MacMini's just went STV so I am hoping to get it any day. D

You can rest assured that I will post some juicy pictures once I have it in my possession.

My question goes out to all you Mac Veterans and Geeks. I am a PC/Win IT Tech and I'm fairly out of the loop on what is going on in the Apple world.

1) So what are the "KILLER APS" for the Mac OS?
2) What are the first pieces of software or hardware that you would recommend to "pimp out" a MacMini?
3) Finally does anyone have a link to a web site that explains how to add a Mac to a Cat-5 WindowsXP Based Network(LAN) for file sharing purposes?

I know that I have read that it is possible, but I can't seem to find my way back to the instruction.
Thanks for any help or advice you can provide.

Long Live Freepay and Long Live the Freebie. 8)
Thanks

Hey thanks!

That adium program looks really sweet. Can wait to try it out!

Just got confirmation that DHL is droping off My Mini at my house Monday the 23rd, less than 12hr from now!! D

I love that FreePay ships with DHL next day service.

PS> +1 Karma for the help on my questions.

Windows uses SMB to share files. I am not sure if Mac uses SMB to share or not. You can download a SMB client though I am sure.

you can turn on file sharing and windows sharing in system preferences and you'll be able to see the mac from your pc. if you share a folder in windows (via smb) you can see it in the Network section of your finder

Hey thanks for the info! Is it the same procedure for sharing a windows printer over the LAN? Or is there another setting in OS X. Is this even possible?

Thanks

If you're trying to connect to a printer connected to a windows machine you should be able to see it when you open up Printer Setup Utility (Applications/Utilities) via the Default Browser. Otherwise, depending on the protocol used you can use the IP Printer button to browse for it via ip address if you have it on a print server, or go to More Printers button at the bottom of that window and select Windows Printing specifically.
