yeah timeline was pretty much same for me, and I just got back from applestore at the mall and traded my nano for a 30 gig video for only $21.55 (edu discount). This is awesome.

they are nice ppl. i just went in, told them i have this ipod nano that I got as a gift (so I didnt know where it was bought and didnt have the reciept). Of course, I didnt open the plastic around the box, so it was clearly unopened.
So i asked if i could exchange for an ipod video and I would pay the difference. She said no problem. After she said she would do it, I asked her if i could apply the educational discount (i am a college student). She said no problem.
SHe asked me if I knew if the nano was bought with an educational discount, and I said, "im pretty sure it wasnt". She said alright then your difference will be $20 ($21.55 w/tax). She checked my ID's, scanned barcodes, took my money, and gave me a new black 30gig video ipod. YAY!
