I got the Cyberpower today. The box is huuuuuge. UPS says 32 lbs.

I'm having some trouble though. It's gone to the blue screen of death and memory dump a bunch of times. I hope there's not a faulty part in there. I hope it settles down )

The computer is doing fine as of now. I'll update it it crashes again a lot. Maybe it was just the antivirus program that was preloaded that was jumping up and down for registertaion when I started the machine.

Looks like the computer is pretty much fucked up. I can't work on it for more than 10-20 mins before it freezes or the blue screen of death comes up. (

I'll have to call Cyberpower and see what they can do about it. Cyberpower does offer 3 years of warranty and so I hope it's valid when I say that I got this from freedesktopPC.

It will be. I had to get a new motherboard from Dell and my warranty covered it just fine and I got it from FDPC.

Cool. That's good then. I'll call Cyberpower and make sure it's just a software issue that's causing the crashes and not a hardware one. THey do say that they run the system for 24 hours and run diagnositcs on the sheet they sent.

I haven't even done anything with the computer and it crashes like crazy. I put in my memory card to see pics and bam the explorer crashes.

When I starting to use it for the first time, it all ended up with blue screens. Somehow windows still activated or loaded.

I got 2 gifts in 2 days and it turns out they are both faulty! Good luck and bad luck at the same time )

is there a warranty or guarantee that comes with thecyberpower?

also i think IF and when i get my cyberpower, the 1st thing i do will be to reformat and put my version of XP pro on......that way you dont get any shite on it that you dont want and you can start from scratch.

There is a 3 year warranty of the Cyberpower.

I'll probably just call Cyberpower and have them do a phone diagnostics first just to be sure it's not a hardware problem. If I reformat and all that they'll probably have me restore it claiming my reformatting was the cause.

Hopefully it'll just be a software issue! Shipping the thing back is going to be real pain. It's 30 lbs and huge and the UPS charges are going to be big too.

Luckly for me Cyber Power is located right here in Baldwin Park, Cali about a 15 minute drive from my home. So if anything ever goes wrong I will just take it over there and wait around till they fix it. )

I got a few errors when first using the Cyberpower, especially in Windows Explorer. For instance, whenever I right-clicked a drive letter, the program would crash. After awhile, I noticed that all these errors were "Data Execution Prevention" related. Apparently, this feature was implemented in SP2 and works with AMD cpu's. Once, I disabled this feature when Windows Explorer is running, the crashes disappeared.

theysayjump

07-07-2005 01:29:35

so how do you disable it?

Fice

07-07-2005 08:46:53

yea I would like to know how to do that too. And what is the purpose of the function?

mr0x

07-07-2005 10:49:58

[quote6bef106943="Fice"]yea I would like to know how to do that too. And what is the purpose of the function?[/quote6bef106943]

Directions
Several OSs have no-execute or execute protection. Microsoft has added this as well in SP2 with data execution prevention (DEP). This precents code execution in memory regions already marked as storage. This is a powerful tool against buffer overrun exploits.

If a program is failing and you want to disable DEP to see if that is the cause. Here are the steps. (Just disable DEP for the program in question... don't disable it for your whole system.)

1. Click Start
2. Select Control Panel
3. Select System
4. Click the Advanced tab
5. In the Performance region select Settings
6. Click the Data Execute tab in the dialog box that opens
7. Select Turn on DEP for all programs and services except for those I select
8. Click Add.
9. The open dialog box will open. Browse and select your application.
10. Click Open
11. Click Apply
12. Click Ok
13. Reboot

The purpose is to hinder viruses from causing harm but since they decide it implement like so late it casuses device drivers to crap out.

I called Cyberpower. Just call their 1888 customer support instead of the 1800 number.

Sounds like the phone lines are run by a bunch of cocky/idiotic Asians there who really don't belong in customer support! The first person I called got me pissed off since he just told me go call Gratis without hearing what I had to say. He just seemed dumbfounded and unable to comprehend that I hadn't myself paid for the computer ). The invoice says Gratis was charged $641 ($499 for the system, $89 for Windows XP ( and $50 shipping)

I mean customer support is supposed to be kinda unpleasant but in a sort of patience grinding way, but I wasn't expecting the I'm pissed you called and can't wait to end the call kind of way.

The invoice is on the side of the big box and they asked for the customer ID and then of course invoice ID.

Pretty much took me through the steps to reinstall windows. First he asked me to make some BIOS changes. Then, reinstall windows. I hope this works. Otherwise, I'll just turn off DEP and hope for no more blue screens.

I think maybe the card reader driver is fauly? It shows up as 6 drives on Windows Explorer.

mr0x

07-07-2005 12:40:36

Reinstalled Windows XP and it works fine now (at least it doesn't crash where it used to crash) )

I'll have to run more stress checks and games to see if it's really all cleared off problems.

You asked if it came with Half Life 2. The answer is no. It does not come with Half Life 2.

And you asked how I got it 1 day before you did. That is probably because Cyberpower shipped yours 1 day after mine.

I didn't mean to ignore you. I thought your questions were rhetorical.

[/quote86091014d6]It most definitely wasn't. D Thanks for posting all those pics, I'm glad someones finally stepped up to give detailed pictures of everything they recieved with their computer. One would think that after working for 10 refs people would be proud enough to show off with more than just 1 cam phone pic. Bookerman

08-07-2005 12:58:14

Actually, my guess is that the issues are not hardware related. Apparently, Cyberpower just takes some old drive image to clone everybody's new system. That is why a trial version of Nero already expired when I tried to run the program. If anybody has problems with their Cyberpower, this issue is something to consider.
