I'm looking to treat myself to an HDTV soon, just wondering what you guys recommend. Looking for 37", 40", or 42" (we live in a small apartment, and will get a bigger TV when we move), and something around $1000-1500. I'd obviously prefer the best TV that fits in the price range.

Also if you can point me towards hot deals or sales on one of the TVs you recommend, that's cool. 0% Interest Financing isn't a big selling point - I've got the cash to pay for it, but would certainly take advantage of it, unless I can get it cheaper by paying cash up front.

Ive always been a fan of Sony, LG and Samsung all make nice HDTVs

of course there is no substitute for the viewing the TV in person.

Most, if not all, B&M stores have dropped prices on HDTVs in the past month or so

Im sure you will have no problem finding a good deal.

good luck and let us know what you end up buying

A friend just bought this 40" Sony Bravia[=http//www.amazon.com/Sony-Bravia-KDL-40W4100-40-Inch-1080p/dp/B0017Q8B66/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=audio-video&qid=1221531857&sr=1-1]40" Sony Bravia last week, and I helped him set it up. Looks like a great set, Amazon white glove shipping by truck was free and fast. He's very pleased.

Phillips. 42 for sure. I just got a refurbished 47 inch from Phillips for cheap and it only came with one dead pixel on the LCD.

I have a 26" Samsung LCD and while I know that's not the size you want, I still really like Samsung TVs. My friends down the hall last year had a 42" Samsung plasma and it was nice too. My grandparents have a good sized Sony Bravia plasma that's also nice, but I prefer Samsung.

I already have a plasma that I got from Ideal a couple of years ago, but it's not HD and I'd like an LCD.

I've been looking at Phillips and Sony so far and I'd say I'm probably leaning more towards Sony.

I love my philips lcd i got from ideal, it's simply amazing.

But I would go 46in, look into some 46 lcd's

The size will also depend on how close you're sitting to the tv itself. I would go with at least a 37 but probably more toward the 42 in range. I went with a samsung and have no complaints whatsoever.

Sony, Samsung, or Panasonic over Phillips anyday, IMO. I just don't like much of anything Phillips puts out, least of all TV's. Mind you I'd take one over a bottom-barrel Westinghouse, Sanyo, Emerson, etc., but not over a top-shelf brand like the big three I mentioned. I'd rate Phillips middle-of-the-road, along the lines of Vizio (actually I'd probably take Vizio first unless the deal was too good).

Hey now, my 26 inch westinghouse that I got for $299 is just as good in quality overall all as my 40 inch samsung at home. wink How about a DLP CG? Too big to fit? You could get a big samsung DLP for that amount of money. Ahh, never mind. You live in a small apartment. If you do move get yourself a kickass 73 inch DLP. I really do suggest samsung like everyone else. Their tvs are beautiful and they do their job quite well.

It depends on the size of your room. Brand-wise I'd say Samsung, Panasonic, or LG. If your looking for bargain (since you said you'd be getting a different one when you move out), Vizio is awesome for the price. There not the best TV in the world, but they really aren't bad, and the price is unbeatable. I have two friends that have one and they love them, especially for the 42" ~$700 price.

Thanks for the advice but CG made the original thread, I bumped it for advice on the same specs, apart from the moving out part, so the sizes would be from 37"-42".
