I just won an 8GB iPhone 3G. I've been offered the cash equivalent of $200 if I prefer. I don't really understand how iPhones work, especially up in Canada. I have no need for a data contract. Would it be better to get the phone or the money? Should I wait to see how much the phones are selling for before deciding?

I would just take the cash, cash is king.

If you aren't dying for an iPhone, or want to bother with a data contract, then just take the money

Take the phone and sell it, since we're not sure what the supply will be like when they're released, it could be like the Wii's.

Not only that, it'll be difficult to get an iPhone that's not tethered to AT&T since you can only get them in-store and activate them there and then.

There's a really good chance you could get more than $200 for it.

Yeah, I'm going to wait and see how much they are selling for on Craigslist.

FYI, Rogers just announced their iPhone pricing, and it really sucks

I currently have the first gen iPhone, I dont think I am going to upgrade (unless I get a free 1st Gen iPhone or a 3G iPhone form a website D). but I have mine jailbroken (hacked) so that I can instal thirdy party applications. And it is definitely worth it. You dont need the monthly data plan as, for me anyway, you are at home using wifi most of the time which youare using email or internet. I would get the iPhone as the 8GB iPhone 3G is going to be sold for $600USD without a contract so they will be worth at least $600 on eBay/Craigslist, even more if it is unlockable and jailbreakable. So I say take the iPhone, and if you dont want it. Then sell it on eBay/Craigslist.

Oh and there was a petition going around and it had over 40,000 signatures, it is causing Rogers to redo their plans, and Apple is giving some of the iPhones that were supposed to be sent to Rogers to European countries instead.

I've decided to take the phone, but I don't know what their reply will be, seeing as how they won't be able to get it for $200 without a plan....hm...

I heard AT&T put a data cap of 700MB on their iphone plans in Canada. Might want to look into that if you plan on using it.

well rogers has now a 6gb data plan for 30$ , well it is better than their last plan which cost a fortune

if you're already a members of rogers, choose to upgrade to a iphone ( like i will do this weekend) because you can keep you voice plan if it's 30$+ but if you are new, the minimum price for small iphone voice plan is 60$+ 911fee...$+ tax$$ = almost 100$ a month loll

so jenny choose well and don't forget rogers contract are 3 years !!!!!!!!
