Has anyone ever (software) unlocked an iPhone?

In case you haven't heard, the iPhone is no longer available at the Apple store online and the 3G model is coming out next month. Well, I gotta sell mine fast and I have seen the 4GB model going for $400 if unlocked (and new). It only cost me $250 for it and I could actually make more off this thing than I paid for it months ago!

Problem is, I don't have a T-Mobile SIM to test it. The only way I can really think to do this is to take advice/instructions from someone who has used a particular method and can assure me it worked without a hitch for them.

I'd hate to sell an "unlocked" iPhone just to have them send it back because their SIM didn't work in it.

Secondly, if it is SIM unlocked, does that mean they could use it with international GSM networks or does it still have to be used within the US?

Thanks for any help.

It's a quad-band phone, so if it's SIM-unlocked it should work worldwide, as every other quad-band does. At least for voice, I can't swear to data support.
