Dad might buy iPod...but has Windows 98SE...

Is there any specific software he can use to transfer all of his MP3s from his computer to a new iPod? Is it required to install iTunes to first register the iPod and such?

Thanks,
Craig

iTunes isn't required to move music to/from an iPod. There are many other apps, free and commercial, that will do the job, and some will still run on Win98SE. I think most all support they latest iPod models.

I was first going to suggest WinAMP 5 but it looks like Win2000 is its minimum supported OS.

YamiPod[=http//www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/]YamiPod is free and claims to run on 98SE. I used it years ago with my first iPod, but eventually grew to like iTunes and WinAMP for iPod management.

Floola[=http//www.floola.com/modules/wiwimod/index.php?page=WiwiHome]Floola is another freebie that claims Win98 support.

Anapod Explorer[=http//www.redchairsoftware.com/anapod/featpw.php]Anapod Explorer claims to run on 98SE, but it's not free. There is a free trial, though. Price varies from $20 for the Shuffle version, to $25 for higher specific iPod versions, or $30 for the Universal version that works with all iPods. That includes Lifetime Upgrades, so you'd never have to pay again. Anapod Explorer is very popular, probably the most popular and polished of the alternative-to-iTunes applications.

Thank you very much for clarifying everything. That will make my father extremely happy. He's got Winamp now, but I'm not sure if the version he has (Pro 5.0) will work, because they stopped supporting 98 at some point in the past few months, so I'll have him look at the other software.

Thanks again.
