Question I am streaming movies from my PC to my HDTV via TVersity. if the file is in HD format, will my Xbox play it on the HDTV back as HD?

If the files are WMVHD the 360 can play them back in HD directly. I think that's the only format it can do that with for now.

TVersity will convert the file on the fly to a format playable on the 360

He's asking about HD to HD. I don't think that even the fastest computers (good c2d) can transcode from one HD format to another HD format (wmv) on the fly and have it be watchable. I could be wrong though.

I don't use TVersity to "on-the-fly" conversion. I convert the files to (usually) mp4 and then play them on the TV.

If you're using tversity to stream mp4 files, you are in fact transcoding on the fly since the 360 doesn't support mp4 video.

Since you're converting anyway, just convert it to wmvhd if you want HD (just google for a guide).

Incorrect again. The reason I know it is not converting it on the fly is because I can use my PC at a normal rate. I tried them as avi's before and the computer would be impossible to use.

Yeah, you're right h264 mp4 is supported since this spring, I was thinking more of xvid, which is also mpeg4. I guess you confused us with tversity, since you can simply stream already compatible format with wmp11.

i watch xvid hdtv rips of varying quality at native 480p via tversity/xbox360 ... i know it doesn't qualify as HD, but my box isn't all that fantastic (4ghz core duo/2gb/300gb sata/300 homebuilt) which leads me to believe that hd transcode on the fly would work

keep in mind that tversity has a lot of settings you can tweak, too, and it'll buffer a little bit if necessary
