Ever since I built my new system and have the newest version of firefox...

The computer kinda "lags" when doing multiple things in firefox. I checked the memory usage in task menu and it's using around 100 megs of memory!!

WTF, anyone else encounter this? Does firefox have a memory leak? It doesn't lag with IE

Yes, Firefox uses a large amount of memory -- I pointed that out in the BT client discussion when people were accusing Azureus of being a memory hog. Firefox is much more the memory hog than Azureus is.

That said, I leave it open most all day and I don't notice any lag. FF's working set hangs around 68MB on my PC (obviously dependent on the number of pages open, extensions installed, etc.). The virtual size can be ignored -- that is NOT an indicator of how much memory is being used.

Disable all your extra extensions and try it for awhile. Then enable them one by one, you might be running a bad extension.

^ Yeah. The more extensions you have running, and the more tabs you have open, the more memory it'll use. I think my Firefox hit 150+ MB once. But I don't really see it affecting my system now, so it really doesn't bother me that much. Right now with just FiPG open it's only using 32MB of memory with a few extensions running.

One reason being that a great deal of IE's footprint is already in memory as part of the OS. ;) Firefox is totally self-contained.

Then I don't understand why my Firefox with extensions running is running at 32-34MB when I'm browsing FiPG, while yours is not running any extensions and is using 103 MB. O_o

Explain that David Morris. D

Yeah mine is at 77. Maybe the themes being used have something to do with it.

Mine is taking up 77 w/ 2 tabs and a bunch of extensions running. Doesn't slow me down at all though, but that's what 2 gigs of ram is for in XP, right?

^ I run Ultimate with 3GB, and play games and whatnot, and burn DVDs while playing games while browsing the web while AIM is open why listening to music and it just won't slow down. I can't. Slow. It. Down. lol.
