Hey TSJ and everyone else,

I'm thinking of buying a camera just for a daily camera to take some pictures. I don't ever pictures and I have some exciting trips coming up so I want something to show people, since I never have. Would this camera be considered overkill for my needs?

I've been reading and a few said they prefer Canon, I'm up for all recommendations.. D +KMA

Slickdeals is a really good place to look for cam deals. Staples, Office Depot and others have had some great cam deals lately.

In fact, I was looking at that Sony in a STAPLES recently. I love those pocket-made ones. Reminds me of the old Kodak disc cameras. )

Olympus makes one/some in the same style that are waterproof as well. If you like the size, that might be a better buy.

Do they ever have deals on these types of cameras though? I would think they would never have Sony's like this but I don't visit there that often..

This one?

Looks sleek as hell but may be more of an overkill. I have the bad habit of buying way more than I need spec-wise when it comes to gadgets. lol

Do a search there. I could've swore there had been recent deals on T series (thin pocket-sized) models in the last couple of months. There's also the occasional sale on an entire brand. Mostly it's the S and W series, but I've seen T's on sale there.

Here are the top cameras of the last 5 days http//www.dpreview.com/reviews/stats.asp

The camera you're looking at has only been out for a few months so I'd actually go for something that's been out for about a year (unless it was a DSLR which you don't want) so that any bugs or kinks could've been fixed already and a new batch sent out.

Here you can compare cameras side-by-side http//www.dpreview.com/reviews/sidebyside.asp

I do go Canon or Nikon, but Sony are also pretty good for P&S (Point and Shoot) cameras.

I recently acquired a Kodak Z885. Spec-wise it looked good, and sample pics I saw on the net looked great, although it apparently hasn't been out long either. (Had to decide in a short time what was the best bang for the buck. A big coupon was involved. ;) )

Unfortunately, it's the software that is a pain. Just can't install it, and after a clean, there's still some stuff that I'll have to use regedit to remove. I guess this is why Kodak doesn't rank. (

JKirk, did you decide yet? I'm feeling masochistic and want to know how much better your choice was compared to mine. )

Got my problem fixed, btw. Using Picasa now, and just got a 4GB SDHC card too. Seems a decent cam, but I'm waiting for Frank to tell me how stupid I was. ;)

Yeah, I know it's two months later but I decided to go with the Canon SD1000. The Sony T20 looks a lot cooler but the SD1000 has a better rating on CNet, a lower pricetag, and seems to have a lot more positive reviews since it's been around longer. Plus the memory issue with the ProDuo.

For my pocket camera I have a Canon SD600. A thing I don't like the flash doesn't flash more than once...for example on sonys the flash fires multiple times in one shot and in the canon it fires once.

I also have a Nikon D40 for my DSLR with a 18-135m lens.

The canon I have is amazing in daylight. You can get amazing pictures. If you put it on multiple shot you can get shots of like a frisbee in the air or something. Really cool!

Those are good cameras for their prices but I would suggest getting something with a nice lens if you want your camera mainly for photography and not family photos.
