I am going over to England this summer and will be in a tent for 13 or so days. Wanted to get a good camera. Would this be good?

My advice to anyone looking at digital cameras, is to stick with a company known for their film cameras also. I prefer Nikon, but Canon is good too. This one looks to be in your price range

Yeah, as far as quality is concerned, I would say definitely stick to Nikon or Canon. I shoot with a Nikon d50 dSLR, and I bought a little Nikon Coolpix for my wife. I take the Coolpix when I travel overseas for work. Fits in a coat or pants pocket just fine, and takes great pictures.

I've seen TSJ's pictures, which look amazing. Do you have any clue what camera that is?

I believe he shoots on a Canon dSLR. I've used Canon's point and shoots, and they're pretty nice too. I can't vouch for how nice they are to carry around, but I'd say they're comparable to Nikon.

What do you think of the D40 (or anyone who knows Nikon DSLRs)? I've heard mixed reviews but am kind of tempted. Some people have told me just to get a Canon Rebel for a bit more.

Canon Rebel is a nice buy, both the 35mm or the digital.

I have a Canon SD600 and it takes awesome pics. Its pretty small too. I just bought a Nikon D40 DSLR last week too and thats awesome as well.

Canon Digital Rebel XTi is quite the camera for the buck. For a camera just around $1000 its pretty darn spiffy. It's kind of light so if you are looking for a larger model try out the D200
