i've tried winamp, itunes, WMP, VLC etc.
but i'm just wondering what are your opinions?
i just want one that can open up easily and is very very simplistic
winamp and itunes take so long to open (in my case)...
WMP ..yeah...
so what do you guys use?

Definitely Winamp. It's the best...no questions asked. Oh, and it's compatible with your iPod in both exporting songs, and importing songs...what could be better than that?
my only concerns with winamp in the past is that it seemed to be a memory hog. not sure if this is currently a problem b/c i pump everything thru my stereo system/360 or just use the ipod or if i need to listen on the pc i use itunes.

I've never used Winamp myself..
Can someone fill me in on why it's good, it is free, downsides, etc?
Thanks dance

I don't think there's any downsides, and it's free, although there's a pro version.

Basically, the Pro version gives you better ripping features.

Regardless the problems ... and the general process of using lots of system resources, I still use iTunes. It uses a lot of resources, true, but most newer machines should be able to handle it running. That's just me, though shrug

For music, it's WinAMP all the way for me. I bought the Pro version back when it came out. I use it to rip my CD collection, to sync my iPod, and to listen to streaming audio (Shoutcast, XM).
The only thing I use iTunes for is buying music.

Same. D 'Cept I never ripped anything before. The Shoutcast radio is awesome, as well as their XM radio. I have the Pro version as well.

I wish Winamp was Mac compatible. ( iTunes isn't doing so hot for me and it's starting to get really laggy when scrolling.

I think that iTunes was the worst piece of software ever created. It has yet to detect my sister's iPod Shuffle properly.

I use foobar2000 most of the time. You can get it to look good and you can do kernel streaming with some cards like the AV710.

VLC beats WinAMP and anything else. It starts fast, doesn't hog anything, and plays almost everything....even partials.

Love VLC for video, but hate it for audio.

Seconded on fobar2000. It's probably the most customizable player out there, and it plays every format you come across.

I still like it for audio for the fact it starts so fast.

Foobar is nice if you like customization. But winamp does everything I need out of the install box with limited resource hog and it works on my G15 keyboard LCD perfectly, and the syncing to the ipod is an amazing feature.
I use mplayer classic for video and VLC very rarely, because seriously one standalone .exeurl==http://=http:///url file > a install.
