Also ... [quote80beabdf5f="iPod Shuffle Manual"]To use iPod shuffle, you must have

One of the following computer configurations

A Macintosh with a USB port (USB 2.0 recommended)

A Windows PC with a USB port or a USB card installed (USB 2.0 recommended)

One of the following operating systems

Mac OS X v10.3.9 or later,
Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 or later, or
Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later

Internet access (a broadband connection is recommended)
iTunes 7.0.2 or later (iTunes can be downloaded from www.apple.com/ipod/start)[/quote80beabdf5f]

Hope this helps )

I don't know about needing iTunes to charge the shuffle (I don't have one to test), but why don't you have service pack 2? Not even in regards to the shuffle anymore ... your computer should just be up to date. It might be the reason for the shuffle not working ... again, I don't have one, so I don't know.

I'm using service pack 2 and it works...don't know if that is what makes it work though /me shrugs
