The past month or two I have been having a problem with my laptop's LCD. Almost all the time from about the bottom of my screen to 1/3 up it is a slightly different shade. This in itself is no problem, but recently and happening almost daily, that area of the screen will do one of 2 things.
1. Turn black, and show nothing.
2. Stay stuck on whatever was last seen, not refreshing.
I can usually fix it, but iits a quick fix and does nothing to prevent it from coming back. As the laptop isn't under warranty, I might as well see if it is a small issue I can fix myself, or if I probably need a new LCD.
It is a Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop, purchased in Sept of 2005.

It sounds like the cable to the LCD has come half-out inside the case. I assume your quick fix is closing the lid and then opening it. You could just open the laptop up, reseat the LCD cable, and try again. If that doesn't do it, it could be that your graphics chip is fried. In that case, not much you yourself can do.
