A friend just gave me a monitor for my computer, and I was thinking about hooking it up as a dual monitor next to the one I currently use. My computer only has one vga output. I really know nothing about this, but I was told I need to add a second video card to do so. The thing I use my monitor for that probably needs the video card most is watching baseball games. Is there a cheap video card that I could buy that would make it possible for me to use one screen to watch a game and the other to do stuff online? I don't want to spend much money at all and was just wondering if there is a really cheap solution.

... or you can use one video card with two monitor outputs. A second video card is not needed, and probably not possible unless you have a compatible motherboard with dual pci16 spots available. First, you need to find out whether your computer has an AGP or PCI slot for its video card. Then, go to newegg and look for a video card with two DVI ports that fits your system. If you aren't going to be doing any gaming, pretty much any video card (with two DVI ports) will fit your need.

You don't [i37869340fa]have[/i37869340fa] to have dual PCIe slots for two videocards. You can still buy PCI video cards for your secondary output, although they're getting harder to find -- eBay would be your best bet. OTOH you could also buy a cheap Nvidia 6200 or something for almost the same price, that has dual outputs on a single card. Most newer ones will come with one or both DVI connectors, but should include VGA adapters in the box (if not, they're cheap).

Exactamundo. A 6200 does pretty well for the price.

what is your price range? do you wnat to do any gaming? or is it strictly to have two monitors? cuase if its the latter, you could even just get a nvidia 5200 or something like that for 30-60 dollars. or if you want to game, get a 7600 for 120.

Honestly...my price range is like 10-15 bucks. The only thing I really use it for is the web and watching live baseball games. I'm in no hurry at all to get this going, just wanted to know what it would take to do it. What are the specs I would need if I were to look for a pci card as a secondary instead of the nvidia?
