Am I too Hot? & How to Cool Down?

So I have the ASUS PcProbe tool that tells me how cool/hot I'm running, and alerts me if I get too hot.

Currently my PC is at 163F and my MB 114F. Because of this, I turned up my Chassi and CPU fans. This has caused a slight decrease in temps, but not significantly enough.

I'm running a Pentium D processor. Is 158 (it changed) too hot? Is 163 too hot?

Edit Temp just went up to 181F

Mine computer has a digital readout on the case of the core temp. I have never gone over 85 degrees....

What is that in C??

Edit 181F = 83C = hot....I don't get mine get above 55C and mine is OC'ed

Edti 114F = 45C = not to bad

He says 181F = wouldn't F = Farenheight?

Sure....But I was just trying to understand the conversion as I monitor my system in C

Ah, I thought you said "What is that? C?" Sorry, its the morning time.

I expect you're talking case temp, not CPU temp, unless that's in Celsius -- which would be WAY hot. While 85F for a CPU temp would involve some pretty damn good cooling.

EatChex89, the standard is to use Celsius when talking about PC temps, so I had to do some conversion to put your temps in perspective. )

When you say PC at 163F, I assume you mean CPU. That's about 73C, which is hot, but depending on your exact model it might still be within spec. 181F is 82C and that's too hot for anything but older Athlon XP series. Your MB temp of 45C is not bad at all.

I'd try another couple of temp checks first though, AsusProbe has been known to be inaccurate. Try your BIOS setup, as most all modern BIOS's report temps. Also, keep your fans at maximum. Unless you're running an HTPC, noise should really not be a concern while you're working on a PC. Cool trumps Noise any day, and unless you have bad fans, it shouldn't be that bad. Considering upgrading fans to larger, slower models if noise is a concern or if you have bad fans.

Well my house upstairs is kept at 64 degrees, with 3 fans running on the PC-- I can check to be sure though.

Good info. I run a AMD Athlon XP Mobil chip and usually run load a 50C.

I'm using a Pentium D LGA 775 945P chipset.

I guess I'll try a different temp program. When I took the side off my case, the temps actually went up, instead of down (which was odd). I have 2 case fans, the CPU fan, and (of course) the power fan which I keep turned all the way.

Noise isn't a problem for me, so I guess I will turn up my fans, although when I had them blowing full blast last night, the temp didn't go down too much more and was still red (which is a sign of alert).

I'm just concerned that I don't blow this processor as it did cost me $$.

Arctic Silver and after market cooling system?

If i were you I would try a few more programs to see if your getting the same temps with them as the program your using now. If they are still that high i would get a few antec tornado fans if you don't mind noise they are the best available. Also i would take a can of compressed air and clean out the inside of the computer to make sure thats not the problem since dust build up will cause the temp to rise higher than it should. Dust will also degrade performance. Just a few things that i would check if i were you
