I know someone posted a similar thread in the past, but I can't find it right now - please link it here if you find it.

Problem GF has an iBook with a 30GB drive; she has nothing on there, (2Gb of iTunes), and some word documents, and yet she only has 10B left. I remember from the last thread, that there are temp files or duplicates somewhere on the HD, but I don't know where to look. Anyon want to take a stab at it?

That was me that made the post.

Install this program and run it, it's called Disk Inventory X

There should be an invisible Volumes folder that is taking up a lot of space, the program will show you were it is and allow you to delete it. Took me less than 10 minutes.

It's very straightforward. Just install and click the volume you would like to look at, meaning your hard drive, and it will load up all your programs. (It takes like 2 minutes usually) On the right should be a list with the colors and what colors stand for what and on the left is the actual graph showing how much space everything is taking up. Just left click the squares and it will let you move the programs to the trash.

Hmm, I have the program loaded up, and found several large volumes to delete (EPSON print folder for example), when I try to drag it the trash nothing happens, nor if I select the folder on the left panel, and choose EDIT|delete does anything happen. I'll keep futzing around.

Hmm, are you left clicking the actual representation of the EPSON folder? (Like the square?) Try left clicking that and click move to trash.

Bump, she's down to 7.77GB and isn't downloading or otherwise that would fill up the drive. TylerC do you remember what folder it was that was taking up the space/

tylerc

It was a Volumes folder I think, it's hidden but if you use the program it will show it.
