i'm totally new to burning dvds so sorry for all the clueless questions.

i have some avi's i want to burn to dvds using nero 7. i found a good guide on videohelp.com but it includes conversion. i'm using the dvd burners on campus computers so ideally i'd like to convert the files and do whatever is necessary besides the actual burning on my own computer and then burn it when i'm on campus. i have no idea if converted files are ginormous making this a dumb idea. i have no idea what i'm talking about.

anyway, if anyone has directions or links to good guides that would be great. thanks.

i'll get a burner soon but i want to burn a few things for this weekend before then.

The Nero 7 Suite includes Nero Vision Express. It's what I use for almost all of my transcoding needs. It's easy to use, just add your AVI's to the list and it will automatically build a DVD (with chapters and menus if you like).

Well 4.7gigs. If you consider that ginormous then don't do it. I really don't like converting xvid to mpeg2 but if you have to you have to. Videohelp.com should have the guides you need.

A lot of people use a program called avi2dvd. Use these guides http//www.videohelp.com/convert#4;10

Oh yeah. Prepare for a wait if you are rencoding when you are burning the movie.

thanks. the guide i found uses nero vision. does it take a long time for you? i'm just concerned about the time it takes to complete the entire process b/c i don't feel like hanging around a lab for a ton of time.

i'm just burning some short clips, not an entire movie. that would be a nightmare.

i'll check out avd2dvd. thanks.

Depends on the the length of the video and the PC's horsepower. A full single-layer (4.7GB) DVD takes around 40 minutes (on my PC) IIRC, but it's been awhile since I've done one so I can't say for sure.
