So, my Philips surround sound system is finally crapping out. I'm open to just a new receiver, or a whole new system. I have a small apartment, and I don't ever crank the volume up above normal listening levels.

I'm just looking for a reliable 5.1 system that will do good surround sound, and let me hook my 360 up for surround sound. I don't know much about audio, but I guess it uses an optical cable?

Anyone have any good suggestions? I'd like one that has a DVD player built into the receiver, as that's what my last one had. Like I said, I'm not looking for high end -- hopefully around $200 or less. Mucho thanks!

I picked up the Onkyo HT-S590 HTIB[=http//www.crutchfield.com/S-ND5OKR4tlAT/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=37600&I=580HTS590S]Onkyo HT-S590 HTIB from Crutchfield a few months ago to pair up with the Panasonic plasma I got from CSC. For a bedroom or small apartment, and for a non-audiophile, it's excellent and inexpensive. I've been quite pleased with it for our bedroom.

It even does component video switching (although not upconversion), so if you have all component devices (cable/sat box, progressive-scan DVD, XBOX360 or whatever console that does component) then you can switch between them while running only a single component cable to your TV (assuming you have a component-capable TV).

It does NOT have a built-in DVD player however, and I'd personally avoid those. If you're going to hook up your 360, why not use that for a DVD player? Or just buy an inexpensive DVD player, like the ever-popular Phillips DVP642[=http//www.amazon.com/Philips-DVP642-DivX-Certified-Progressive-Scan-Player/dp/B000204SWE]Phillips DVP642.

That's the one I ended up getting. I got in at the last minute for the free $100 gift card deal this weekend.

Good choice for the money! Hopefully your existing speakers sound okay with it, otherwise you'll have to put that $100 GC toward some new ones. )

Unfortunately, it's backordered 1-2 weeks... but for the great deal I got on it, I suppose I can afford to wait.
