Well...[bb7ffa768a1]probably in December[/bb7ffa768a1] I'm going to build this massively insane gaming rig. And thanks to the help of dmorris [ <3 ], he was able to successfully turn me over from getting an AMD AM2 socket processor, to getting an Intel Conroe Core 2 Duo processor.
Drool while you look...I know you will. D
It's just a temporary list. I need to pick a case [which is why there's two], and [bb7ffa768a1]I'm waiting until the 8800GTX is released[/bb7ffa768a1] so it will have DX10 support. D

My two asus boards are trash, I'm probably going to return it except that I broke an IDE cable.

Bite your tongue -- ASUS has long been considered one of the highest-end (if not THE highest-end) mobo manufacturer. Their quality and support is bar none better than any other motherboard manufacturer, many of which won't even talk to end-users. Sure, there are other nice motherboards, but overall none come close to ASUS, IMO. And I've probably owned or serviced all of the major players.
Sure, they aren't perfect (none are) and you'll run into the occasional bad board or glitch or whatever, but ASUS warranty support and RMA turnaround is extremely fast.
I won't say ASUS is the lionlyli brand I specify, but it's almost always the first. About the only time I buy or spec something else is when budget requires -- ASUS isn't cheap.

the list looks good but make sure you grab a nice psu to go with it all. also check slickdeals daily and you can get a much better deal on the x-fi. if you're willing to spend around 100 or so for your case, grab a thermaltake case like the tsunami when newegg has free shipping

You can SLi two nonidentical cards? First time I heard of that.
Love the CPU ) watercooling a 6600 soon and can't wait.
Why not a nforce 4 conroe board? I think they just came out don't know much about them yet though. I would get a 150gig raptor or for that price get 2 ). Probally go with a differant motherboard, you can't beat the NEC 19" with opticlear.

Very impressive. The machine I'm on cost around $2K about 4 yrs ago. Its a POS right now. LOL. Enjoy it and something new will be on the horizon. Newegg is a great site to get it from.
Also, I think ASUS is great. Good choice and good luck in getting everything setup the way you want it.

Using SLi you can "link" two cards together. The 7950 uses this technology because it is a dual core card. You can actually SLi two 7950s getting a quadcore SLi. SLi is fairly decent but usually for two times more you can get a card that is much better then what you will get SLi'd unless you have the best...

i'm not sure if you can link a 7950 with a 7900 with sli though... i was under the impression that you needed two of the same card to do so.
Allen626
10-10-2006 22:15:46
Yeah I don't think you can either I posted earlier on that. I mean I guess you can have a tri-core SLi I don't know though I have not looked into the 7950s too much. The 7950s are just slid 7900 cards basically from what I understand though.

If you wait around a little more and [b5940eb46ae]check slickdeals every day [/b5940eb46ae][/size5940eb46ae]by december you should have almost all of your computer parts for [b5940eb46ae]half the price you are paying now[/b5940eb46ae][/size5940eb46ae].

[quotebdbfd801e2="Daggoth"]Is there a noticeable difference between 7200 RPM and 10000 RPM[/quotebdbfd801e2]
All else (cache size, recording technology, etc.) being the same, hell yes!
With the older 8MB cache Raptors (before the 16MB cache 150GB model) they were the fastest drives by far, up until the latest 7200RPM models with new features like 16MB cache and parallel recoding technology, which closed the gap significantly. However Raptor again pulled ahead with the 150GB model, bumping the cache and SATA interface.
