did you get one of those H3x?

I have one... But I got it before I found out about the sale... So I paid the full price ($199 is still a steal for me since it comes with King Kong and a remote)

But, I would definitely jump on this deal if you own an XBOX 360... Even if you don't own an XBOX 360, you can also use this player on Windows Vista (drivers are already pre-installed on the OS, so all you need is HD DVD playback software, such as AnyDVD HD).

I've been eying this for a while. The thing is I have a ps3 now so I'm not sure if it's worth spending the money on another HD dvd drive. I also saw that it is only component, and i have a 1080p TV. The PS3 is hdmi.

Does your TV have a VGA connection? If it does, then it will playback in full 1080p (given that your TV outputs 1080p over VGA)...

Also I hear that the Core/Premium models will have an HDMI port sometime this summer (possibly June/July)... So you'll get 1080p whether you use the VGA cable or you get one of those new HDMI models (Elite in April, Core/Premium shortly afterwards).

I've tried Blu-Ray and HD DVD several times before buying the HD DVD player and I have to say (in my personal opinion), HD DVD looks more crisp, clean and HD DVD's IME clearly beats Blu-Ray's Blu-Wizard hands down... I love HD DVD.

Be careful.

Version Japan

This may not work with U.S. movies.

HD DVD doesn't have region coding... So all HD DVD movies will play. Plus there are reviews from customers in the UK and they don't have any problems with the drive.

I was really tempted but the cheapest shipping adds $ 34.40 so in the end you might be better off going to circuit city with that $40 off $199+ coupon. It would be $160+tax for the US version that you get right away and can return easily if there's any problems.

If it had free shipping I would probably have jumped on it for this

Sounds like a better deal to me... I would've figured the shipping to be no more than $15.

i highly doubt it will happen if that was the case the elite would have never came out.

The Elite also came out for the new black finish and 120 GB HDD, it wasn't the HDMI alone.

The first HDMI-enabled Xbox360 will probably be a Black 'Elite' limited edition that will also come with a 120GB HD and will retail for $479 in April 2007. Some blogs/sites claim Microsoft will announce it this week.
The 120GB HDD addon and Black accessories will probably also come out in April.
And according to our sources close to Microsoft, the normal Pro and Core Xbox360 SKUs will also get a HDMI port in ~June 2007.[/quote2d6f9a472e]

Their sources are reliable (I've can only recall them slipping up once since the Xbox-Scene site opened for the original XBOX... Regardless, sooner or later they will do it. (a rep just mentioned recently in an interview that they will continue to change parts from time-to-time in new units).

I just found out that HDCP won't be a problem for VGA users and there will be improvements in an upcoming update

[quote2d6f9a472e]Answering other questions, both Xbox 360 Elite and current Xbox 360 units will have a spring (console) update which adds support for different video levels for VGA output ("7.5 IRE vs 0"). And as someone mentioned, using this setting you should be able to use computer monitors in addition to TVs with resolutions all the way up to 1080p with high fidelity and no issues with HDCP handshaking. So for current users, I highly recommend trying this update with your VGA connection to see if it does the job for you. Note that this is a console update and will work for both games and of course, HD DVD. The HD DVD software update is separate from this (and will be available on both Xbox Live and xbox.com).[/quote2d6f9a472e]

The Xbox 360 Elite is no longer just a rumor. It has been confirmed and will run for $479.99. It has a black finish, 120 gig HDD, and HDMI input as rumored, and will ship this month, April 29, 2007.
