does anyone have any of these. I want one.

If you don't know what it is. It is a special IR light that is used by special vehicles (po, ambulances, firetrucks, and others) to turn traffic lights from red to green.

They're probably pretty expensive though.

[quote1e1418c026] `(a) Offenses-

`(1) SALE- A person who knowingly sells a traffic signal preemption transmitter in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce to a person who is not acting on behalf of a public agency or private corporation authorized by law to provide fire protection, law enforcement, emergency medical services, transit services, maintenance, or other services for a Federal, State, or local government entity, shall, notwithstanding section 3571(b) of title 18, United States Code, be fined not more than $10,000, imprisoned not more than 1 year, or both.

`(2) USE- A person who makes unauthorized use of a traffic signal preemption transmitter in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce shall be fined not more than $10,000, imprisoned not more than 6 months, or both. [/quote1e1418c026]

Is it still worth it to you?

There was a man who stole one from a fire department nearby. And he used it for a long time, until a police officer followed him on the road one day, noticing that every light he passed, turned green as soon as he approached it. The police called it in, arrested him, and fined him, I think even jailed him.

Yeah, a pretty stupid and selfish thing to do, not to mention dangerous.

According to what I've been reading, you'd be wasting your money anyway. To combat the private sale/use of these devices, new technology is being implemented to secure the datastream such that traffic signals only respond to local emergency vehicles that properly encode the transmission. As it should be.

I mean, its gotta be pretty hard to get busted for using one. there are a bunch of guides on the internet on how to make one, but its just way too hard.

I find it weird that dealing/using drugs has more lax punishments than dealing/using MIRTS.

It's fairly easy if you read my story up above.

but seriously, what dumbass would use his mirt if he had a cop on his ass.

Do most people who get pulled over see cops? No.

Buster389

im sure if a cop was following you long enough to notice all lights were turning green that the person driving would notice the cop in the rear view mirror, so yes he was a dumbass.

The cops are usually hiding behind a tree or billboard or side street, not following the driver for multiple street intersections.

As for the repercussions, that is not so bad. You can technically get a much bigger fine and jail sentence from copying a DVD; doesn't mean that's how much you're going to get.

Do these things make both street light intersections green, or do they change the opposing street lights to red?

Im guessing they turn the other street lights red, they probably cycle like normal except it starts the cycle when the emergency vehicle is in range of the light.

A guy got caught in CO with one of these a little while ago and got a $30 fine and thats it, they raised it to $100. There isn't a new federal law is there?

tjwor

the only thing that would worry me would be multiple people with them... if they are coming from both ways then what happens...

and whoever asked if it changes the other light red... think about it... a firetruck is humming down the road and it switches it's side to green but leaves the other side green? so now all traffic is crossing? doesn't work out...

The traffic light explodes.

Hey, did they outlaw that spray for license plates yet? The one that screws up the image when the "run red" cameras snap your plate.

I remember the guy saying it wasn't illegal, but I doubt that lasted.

Im pretty sure that they aren't illegal because they dont work very well, the cameras that are used to take the pictures have some type of filter or something like that to make it visible so there is no reason to outlaw it.

I didn't even know something like this was even being sold in the "black market" so to speak. I would love to have one on one of those mornings where you are running late and a red light or two can make or break you for being on time or not but it's too expensive, too dangerous, and too risky in my opinion. Has anyone even found one of these online? I'd be curious to just see the price.

It would be hard to find it for sale online considering it's against federal law to sell them.

Yes, true, but you can find just about anything on the Internet. Foreign countries might have them but it would be hard to find.
