PQI is an up-and-coming memory brand. Been around awhile, just not high profile. They're starting to edge into the enthusiast RAM market, much like Patriot.

Of course I can't speak to their USB drives. Most of the inexpensive USB drives are crap when it comes to performance and quality.

All flash drives are NOT created equal. If all you want is cheap storage and take decent care of the drive, you'll probably do okay with the cheapest you can find. However if you use your flash drive a lot and care about speed + durability, you want to stick with a quality make/model. IMO the best made is the SanDisk Cruzer Titanium (not the regular Mini/Micro Cruzer, it must be the Titanium). They are among the fastest available -- much faster than cheaper drives, including the Mini/Micro Cruzers -- and are virtually indestructible. You can wash them, you can run over them with your car (seriously, I've seen it done), etc. and it just won't die. And no cap to lose, either.

I've got one of the old style 512MB Titaniums, and have been itching to upgrade to one of the 2GB newer, more compact versions. Beware though that if you're looking at the 4GB Titanium (or any 4GB model for that matter), 4GB flash chips are still quite a bit slower than 2GB and under capacities. So if you want the fastest, stick with 2GB.

The 2GB model can be had online for about $80 shipped. Lots of places, including Buy.com, were running $20-$25 MIR's on them recently, too.

I have a 1GB Memorex that I got for like $30 a couple months back and a 512MB Cruzer Mini that I got from GiftFiesta over a year ago, that's really all I need since I just use it to store miscellaneous stuff and bring stuff back and forth from school.

Almost positive that's a counterfeit.

There is a HUGE problem with bogus flash drives being sold on eBay, it's one of the most common eBay scams going right now, and bogus SandDisk Cruzers are the primary culprits. They are able to remark a 128MB or 256MB model as a much larger capacity, and even hack the firmware to report the higher capacity. However when you try to store that much to them, they fail after exceeding their true capacity.

Better to avoid buying flash drives from eBay unless you know for [id0b623cb95]certain[/id0b623cb95] you're dealing with a reputable dealer of genuine flash drives. And remember if the price is too good to be true...

Buy.com usually has decent deals on flash drives. If you're patient, you can get a 1GB for like $15 or a 2GB for like $25-30 I think. Most likely, it'll be a no-name brand but sometimes they have pretty good deals on brands that you've at least heard of. I got a 1GB from them about 6 months ago for $20 (no name brand).

EDIT http//www.buy.com/prod/Kingston_1GB_Data_Traveler_USB_2_0_Flash_Drive/q/loc/273/202743517.html

Kingston makes good quality stuff and $20 with free shipping isn't too bad.

What the hell!? I should have went in there. I thought nothing interesting went on there. Did you see the booth with the crazy flash drives like Darth Vader and stuff? They were cool, but expensive.

yea I saw it, I also got to fuck with the geek squad (Changing all their 'best buy' computers from bestbuy.com as a homepage to porn, and waiting till people opened the browsers)
I also got Jay from Jay and Silent Bobs autograph, beat 4 Halo 2 Pros, and met some Cheerleaders. Twas a good day.
