I'm selling these two brand new PC parts due to them sitting around and never being used. I got the Raptor hard drive for Christmas 2005 and I never got around to building a second PC to put it into.

The hard drive is the 74 gig model. Same as seen here

Looking for 120 shipped

I'm also selling a Hardcano 12 that I was planning on using for the Raptor hard drive.

Why is the 74 gig hdd so much?

It's never been used once. Purchased brand new from newegg, newegg retail is 155+5 shipping.

150 gig hdd's usually go for around this much. I am just wondering why this particular drive is so expensive.

Raptor's are 10,000 RPM.

I've never had such a fast HD. Is the difference really noticeable?

From the site

Other Thoughts It is pricey...But if you've got money to burn, why not here? I don't really see any increase of speed of game loading or overall system performance. But when it comes to solid griding tasks of reading/writing, media encoding...this baby rocks my world. I don't recommend it if you're just a gamer or a casual user, you won't find it worth your money. Definately good for encoding and A/V editing.

Ah, I see.

Yes, it's noticeably faster. My boot/OS drive is that same 74GB Raptor. It's about as fast as the 2x320GB RAID0 array on the same box. The newer 150GB Raptor with the 16MB cache and SATA3g interface is even faster.

Raptor cut down windows and game load times for me by a nice margin. If you dont' have a second hard drive for storage though, I wouldn't suggest it because until I got my second raptor, having only 74 gigs really always put me against the wall when it came to drive space for movies and songs and such. great drive though. payed around 190 for my first one a year ago and I love it.

I'm interested in the Raptor.

Is it still sealed or has it been opened? Still comes with a warranty and everything in the box and such right?

If I wait long enough will you put it on Clearance? wink

I don't have the money just yet, I'm awaiting payment from a freebie site, but I'm not sure about this now. (

Not sure I can afford it. (

I would take that Raptor off your hands right now, but I wouldn't be able to RMA it if it tweaked. (

Why not? HD warranties start at date of manufacture (actually most will add +3 months to allow time for sale). That's why you can check online to see if you have warranty. I've yet to ever have to show proof of purchase for a HD RMA -- if it still has factory warranty, they will RMA it, no matter who currently owns it.

With Newegg you need to RMA it from their site with your account (the one you used to get the item) and then you send them back the part and get another one in exchange.

If downthesun knows of another way or you do Dmorris then I'm ready to buy that bad boy since I'll be able to return it.

I believe you just send it to the manufacturer and they replace the drive with a refurbished one? the newegg warranty is only like 3 months I think, that long ago expired, the warranty I listed in the thread is for western digital.

I'm not talking about Newegg's return policy, I'm talking WD factory warranty, which should be 5 years on a Raptor. Doesn't matter where you bought it, as long as had a valid warranty.

Even on an OEM item?

Also 2005? Yeesh I didn't even read that. shock

Yes. OEM drives carry longer warranties than Retail drives, actually. Some high-end retail models, including Raptors, have the same warranty whether retail or OEM, while standard Maxtor and WD drives carry longer OEM warranties than retail warranties.

The 2005 scares me off. I'll keep my options open.

Year doesn't matter, they still make the 74 gig models the same way, the drive has never been used by anyone, it was purchased brand new OEM from newegg, the WD warranty expires in 4 years.
