Microsoft is letting people sign up for free domain names with hosting, email, and site design included. They do require a credit card for verification, but don't charge you anything. D

Wow, this is a great deal! I signed up; its totally free, and got a free domain name. You are the owner of the domain, and can change the DNS settings to where it redirects (or whatever the term is) after 60 days, so if you don't like the whole Windows Live thing, you can ditch it, and still own the domain.
The only thing I don't like about the whole deal is the fact that to use the free domain mail, you have to use Hotmail, but I solved the problem by having it forward all the mail to another address )
EDIT
Eh you have to use the crappy online editor to construct your pages. You have to pay to use Frontpage, and you can't directly upload files. It's actually worthless unless you need / want a generic website.
