You need male to male. Just look at the connectors on your equipment and tv and it'll be easy to figure it out. Male connectors usually have something sticking out and female connectors usually has a hole for you to plug something in to. lol

It was guessing whether the HD cable box that I didnt have at the time would have the female end or not, It did, so I'm all set.
