I need to get a hold of a cheap computer. Where is the best place to buy one from? It can be stripped down. Looking for like 2ghz or more, 512, dvd burner, 100gb hard drive and windows xp. Let me know the best places out there. Thanks

if you know how to build your own, then do so... if not look for some coupons from dell and you can get a decent computer system for around 300

if you are looking for a cheap gaming one, dell with a 40% off coupon that comes around every two months or so can give you a reasonable desktop for $599.

if your'e looking for anything gaming. build your own. there's plenty of online guides that'll tell you everything you need. building a computer nowdays is very very simple because part makers have made everything much easier and to-the-point..

i think that's what my brother is getting. We already have a case, but we need a new cpu fan and a new case fan, so that'll be about an extra $25. Total cost about $200
Much better than the 1.0 GHz, 512 of RAM, and combined 40 + 20 Gb hard drives we have now...it's a good thing we have that much RAM cuz if we had anything slower we'd be in big trouble. shock
The only descent piece of equipment is a Radeon 9250 w/ 256 of RAM. that'll be going into the new computer, and then it'll be a pretty descent comp. wink

just warning about tiger direct rebates, send them with certified mail if it's a large sum since they're pretty shiesty about mir (kinda like compusa)

seconded about tiger direct rebates - wouldn't even trust them with a $10 rebate. compusa has greatly improved in last 6 months or so. staples is one of the best.

my dad get's great deals off of them all the time...
every time he need to upgrade or replace something...he buys it through them. everything from entire systems to usb pen drives. he's never had a problem. I mean seriously rebates arn't that big of an issue, it's the sweet deal afterwards that makes you happy lol

I've had issues with TigerDirect.com even after buying at their RETAIL STORE. Make sure your use Certified Mail OR just go with newegg.com both have good deals, but more often then not NewEgg beats them out in almost every area like price/warrant/etc.

Thanks for the responses. I found my best deal at dell.com. I used the paypal money from freetech4me and bought my sister a nice little birthday present. I heard both the positives and negatives about dell but I feel that it will work for her. It cost $430 shipped and comes with the 2.53/512 mb/160gb/dvd burner. They had a special like 40% off and $29 shipping. Freetech4me has been a great site for me so far. Thanks again
