Armstrong

13-03-2006 20:26:21

yeah, i won it off the delf game from dell...on christmas day too. Im pumped, now I just need someone to buy it. anyone have any suggestions on this listing? I may drop it to auction style, but i'd like to let it stay like this for a couple days

doylnea

13-03-2006 20:38:53

You're invariably going to get the best price on something as common as that by starting the bidding low - and you'll pay a lower listing fee. At this point, I'd almost drop the price to $100. You're either going to not sell it or get a Nigerian scammer at this price point, IMO>.

Armstrong

14-03-2006 10:38:40

at this point can I change the selling format or do I have to close the item and re-do it? will that cost me anything?

So how much did collidgegraduit offer?

Armstrong

you can only see that if you are the seller or the bidder. i.e. --> i can't see it.

also, you can change stuff, and fees may or may not apply. it depends on what you change.

i might make an offer P

You won't be able to change the format, you'll have to wait for the listing to end.

When I put some stuff up for sale with the Best-Offer option, I'd always have some idiot that tries to low-ball. I always wanted to tell them to fuck off but I always bit my tongue...

Want to trade it for an Xbox 360 with a bunch of extras/games and stuff? Might be a long shot.. but meh..

alright, will I have to pay if I cancel it? if so i'll just wait it out. I kinda want to get the most for it and am kinda afraid that i'll get screwed if I put it up for a low number...

If you take it out now, you just won't get your listing fee back.

Armstrong

14-03-2006 13:00:34

i guess I should just wait then, I won't really hurt me other than time

justinag06

14-03-2006 13:26:03

I just built your laptop at dell.com and it was about $2600, so you might look to sell it for less next time.

nick_e

14-03-2006 16:03:57

Someone bought it!
Make sure you send it in such a way that you a covered by seller protection or lag on the shipping for 5 days. If you don't do either you will most likely regret it... if the guy even pays.

Armstrong

14-03-2006 16:31:34

It did sell, but it looks like a shady buyer...any suggestions what I should do from here? how do I know if im covered under seller protection?

theysayjump

14-03-2006 16:36:03

Not only did he just register today but he's from India so that alone is enough to know he's a scam-job.

Armstrong

14-03-2006 16:38:30

thats what I figure. What do I do from here? I can't really just cancel his bid can I?

Editli Plus I said that I would ship Nationally only, he says he's from india. Is that enough to cancel it?

tjwor

14-03-2006 16:48:08

wait and see how he plans to pay, if he pays paypal, make sure it is verified and to a confirmed address... if that happens, you really don't have much for worries... if that doesn't happen, then you can go file a no transaction and get your fee's back...

This is what I think I know about Verified payal and confirmed address, there is no way for him to back out if he has those 2 things, but I'm not 100% sure...

hehehhehe

I was gonna say earlier to set your paypal to block payments from unconfirmed addresses and foreign members, didn't think it would sell like that. You can do so now, if he hasn't paid. To prevent situations like this, you can set your auction so that they have to pay right away (and have your paypal block unconfirmed and foreign).

tjwor

14-03-2006 18:46:17

how do you set it to blcok those types of payments? that would have been great when I was selling my Xbox360 (someone retracted payment after it was shipped, I got it back but a month later, and $200 cheaper)

nick_e

14-03-2006 19:26:30

if he's not verbified and he sends an instant payment through paypal DO NOT SEND IT it's a new scam wait 5-10 days (10 sense he is in india) and if the payment doesn't reverse your ok. If it does your still ok.

People have figured out how to bounce payments with paypal even though PayPal says the funding is cleared if they pay through a bank it can take up to ten days to clear yet paypal says it's "instant" when they find out that the person doesn't have the money guess who takes the hit (you).

I doubt this will happen but if it does you can be ready 4 it.

fricken aye, why can't people just keep this legal!

[quote6b02da1614="Armstrong"]relisted...and this time if any indian f#@$ scammers try to buy my item i;m kickin them in the junk[/quote6b02da1614]

why did you list it with the same super high BIN price - that only invites scammers and drives up your cost.

Armstrong

15-03-2006 21:41:00

because the ebay guy said I could just relist it and not have to pay for the listing fees again. to be honest, I wish i knew what I was doing. fricken aye

chazmann

15-03-2006 21:56:09

If you wanted to avoid it from happening again, make sure that you have your buy it now set for immediate payment. That's the ONLY way I have it set for my auctions.

Good luck D

Armstrong

16-03-2006 10:04:57

I would like to put that, but I don't think I have enough feedback or something.

I have 6 points at %100

Is there a phone number for ebay? I need to talk to a person.

Armstrong

16-03-2006 10:43:56

just relisted it as an auction. This is costing me alot because of that damn scammer!

hehehhehe

16-03-2006 11:33:25

My advice would be to lower your starting price and your BIN price. The high starting price discourages people from following and possibly bidding on your auction, while the high BIN price combined with your low feedback attracts scammers.

I'd say most people looking at a high end Dell laptop on ebay would most likely check dell.com to see if it's a good deal. Right now an XPS with the same specs go for $500 less than what your BIN price is, and they give free shipping.

chazmann

16-03-2006 11:42:35

Yeah, that's a ridiculous starting price. Even if you set it to a dollar, you'll STILL have your reserve set in place. So nothing to really worry about.

Armstrong

16-03-2006 12:33:20

you think i'll be able to make more by lowering the price rather than keeping it high? I agree with that but I don't want to make lower that 2k. what if I set my reserve to $1900 and then lower the inital bid?

chazmann

16-03-2006 12:36:34

Trust me. Set the reserve to the lowest amount that you are willing to part the laptop for.....and just set the starting price at a dollar. Encourage bidding, which in turn results in higher interest from people looking for a laptop.

You arent going to get the retail price for this laptop on ebay. Face it. Why would the person pay the same price on ebay, when they can get it from dell?

Fool the people into thinking their getting a good deal. D

Armstrong

16-03-2006 12:41:53

alright, set it at a buck...reserve is under 2k...I just want to sell this thing now

I'm not going to pretend to have read trough the entire thread, but here are a few pointers

- 3/15 was $0.10 Fixed Price listings on eBay...they just did this about 2 weeks ago too, so keep your eyes open!

- For anything over $150 use signature confirmation or PayPal will NOT cover it (EVEN WITH DELIVERY CONFIRMATION TO CONFIRMED ADDRESS!)

- You can probably get a Final Value Fee Credit for the auction that the scammer bid on, just go to your Dispute Console.
