ING Direct (you've seen the commercials with the park bench) has an online savings account that earns 3.8% interest (really high compared to a normal bank). The account is connected directly to your checking account, so you can transfer funds back and forth really simply.

I've had this account for awhile, but I just found out today I can refer people to sign up and you get $25 free with a $250 deposit. No other strings attached, you depost $250 - they give you $25 and me $10.

So if anyone was thinking about putting their money in a CD or money market account, I'd recommend taking a look at this for obvious reason. Send me a PM if you are interested.

Is it hard to qualify for an account?

I'd imagine that all you'd need is enough $$ for the minimum balance of the account. And if it's not an investment savings or money market account that minimum balance is probably pretty low.

To open it? It wasn't very hard when I opened mine.

Is this like paypal? You just put in money, and transfer it around when needed? I think paypal has a pretty high interest rate too. Around 4% I think.

Yes and No, it doesn't have the sending of funds options to people like paypal does, you can just transfer to and from your own checking account. It's really just a good savings account. Paypal does earn 4% or so if you choose to make a money market account, only problem with that is that its possible that you could lose money as it is an investment.(highly unlikely). The ING account is insured by the FDIC, so its impossible for you to lose the money you have in there.
