There will be only a minor ding to your score -- inconsequential really unless you've been applying for a lot of credit lately -- whether you are approved or not, due to the inquiry. However if you're approved, your ratio of available credit to used credit will go up, causing your score to increase much more than what the inquiry will cost you. Now if you go and use up that available credit line, then your score will drop dramatically.

Keep in mind however, IIRC for those with young or weak credit histories, Discover is often one of the harder cards to qualify for. So if you don't currently have a FICO of at least, say, 720 or so, you may not qualify.

Other than making a purchase there is no way for me to see any further status or indications that my progress is being tracked?

sixoneoh

28-07-2008 07:43:50

Go back to the page you signed up for the card. At the top of the page there is a link that says "Shipping Status" They'll ask you for your email addy and last name. That should give you the scoop.

I applied for the Discover card and did a small balance transfer when applying (only did a very small one b/c the fee is 3% of balance transfer amount). The card comes with 0% interest until 8/2009. That's all I did and I got this e-mail last week

Yeah, I got the same message then they called me like a few days later asking why I was interested in getting a discover, what attracted me to the card, etc. I told them I wanted it b/c I shop at Sam's Club alot and I just wanted a discover. Then he says, "well, welcome to discover." My credit score is about 800 so I don't know what that was all about. Other people have gotten the same message and were approved without a problem.
