A Notary Public is a person authorized to legally certify that the person signing a document is that person. They're basically a professional witness. They have a raised seal or stamp that they apply to the document and sign the document themselves, certifying that the client (you) signed the document in front of them and that you're who you say you are.

Most banks and larger businesses have them. Lots of office secretaries are licensed Notaries. And no you couldn't fax because that wouldn't preserve the raised seal of the Notary.

You're looking for a Person, not a Place. I think all banks have Notary Public's available - check with your bank first ... as they probably won't charge you to have the Notary Public verify your document.
