Is there any possible way to get it to act as a TV? If not how much would you say i could get on ebay for it?

ragefu

Well on rewards venue you can get a tv not a monitor

Gigante

21-01-2006 09:09:02

Lol, it isn't a 42" computer monitor. It is made for a TV, so of course it works as a TV.

igneous

21-01-2006 09:12:45

It still had inputs like a normal tv, just doesnt have a tuner, so you cant just plug in a cable or antenna and get programming.
IF you go with rewards venue, opt for the 2000 dollar gas card, as the tvs and other stuff they offer are worth much less than that. You can choose what you want at the end.

Gigante

21-01-2006 09:26:34

Yeah I would get the $2000 check and get a much nicer tv.

Crynos

21-01-2006 09:56:24

Airkat

If it's a TV like people above are saying, then... YES

Gigante

21-01-2006 10:13:10

I forget what site this applies to, but had it written down.

They send the Panasonic TH42PWD8UK. If only they would send the TH42PHD8UK.

Does anyone know the specs or where yfdirect (BIGWIN) gets their panasonic tv?

Gigante

21-01-2006 10:21:40

I think BigWin's panasonic is the one I listed above.

Gigante

21-01-2006 10:23:59

For the other YFDirect sites, they send the Sony FWD42-PV1 42" EDTV Plasma.

skillet2003

21-01-2006 10:45:12

which plasma is best?

Gigante

21-01-2006 10:48:51

The HDTV Plasma from Meta that requires 2 refs that I am so close to completing.

skillet2003

21-01-2006 10:51:30

haha, well probably but i was thinking right now just from fy direct, but also had a question, i play lots of games like xbox 360 would this screen be fast enough to keep up with that type of action?

editli i signed up at the bigwin site for the panasonic plasma, but how do i get back to the page to do the offers? also, i think the requirements are up to 10 now, cause i went through each page and counted them up and there are a total of 5 pages and they want you to complete 10 offers.

p.s. and why the crap is my sig picture not working anymore?

Gigante

21-01-2006 11:21:54

Yeah the BigWin is the better TV for sure.

ffactoryxx

21-01-2006 12:58:54

So now that i did both msg and efg, ill prolly be getting 2 monitors?

Thats gay (
Can these keep up with the fast xbox 360 action or are they useless.

Think they will send check instead? How much could you sell these for

skillet2003

21-01-2006 13:06:32

personally i'm planning on keeping my plasma because i have a surround sound system so it would work fine and i also play lots of games and i think the tv will be fine for it, unfortunately won't be able to display xbox 360 at 720p, oh well, nevertheless the plasma would certainly be better than my 27'' rca.

ffactoryxx

21-01-2006 13:36:10

yea i have comcast digital cable box

Kenwood reciever
JBL S312 fronts
JBL NCenter

Getting new reciever and putting my n24's on sides. Guess im covered.

BTW though, HOW DOES THIS TV LOOK COMPAIRED TO MY PANASONIC #^" FLAT SCREEN?

great experience
Strengths really great quality picture with my direct tv box.
Weaknesses Doen't come with stand or speakers, and it's realy pain to find right stand.
Summary (Edited August 13th by hsutaria) It good with this price compare to DLP or LCD Projection TVs, and main benefit you can mount on the wall and it's look great. Onces I hook my cambridge speaker it's sounds great.

I think that statement alone shows how much that review is worth...nothing. heh.

I think the best way to get change is to offer an alternative. Consider these two scenarios

"Hello. On your site you say you will ship a Sony TV with Speakers and you are shipping monitors. I want you to give me a check instead or change the item."

"Hello. On your site you mention that you will ship a Sony Plasma TV. Noticing that you are actually receiving less for your money than you could, you could advertise the Plasma as HDTV, get more interest, and go with the Panasonic TH42PHD8UK. This model is the same price as the Sony FWD42-PV1 and is a much better value."

Depends on the flat screen, I mean if you buy a sony xbr flat screen crt no plasma no matter what the price is going to loook better. Its simple crt has the best image out of all plasma, lcd, etc. until a new technology arrives. However if your crt is one off the shelf of wally world like mine the plasma will look much better. Just know that you can't find a crt larger than 40'' just because it would weigh so freakin much.

Oh god no, for how many offers it is find a site that you can get cash from, and buy a decent receiver and decent speakers, and a dvd player if you need one, and you'll be MUCH better off. The sound you'd get from a good receiver and good speakers will just CRUSH what you'd get from that shitty bose system.

skooter22c

21-01-2006 17:33:11

thanks for the advise. So is the receiveer a seperate piece of equipment or is it a piece you buy and it attaches directly to the tv?

Wolfeman

Its a seperate device. Like this is a receiver and 5.1 speaker setup...

tv tuners are 150 online and about 250 retail. Go to pricegrabber and look up samsung hdtv tuner. It runs around 200.

And btw, if you were to get the monitor
1. You need to invest 200 on a table top mount or wall mount
2. You need to invest 200 on a hdtv tuner (if you dont have digital cable like me)
3. you need speakers
4. you need a receiver....
that's at least 500 bucks just to get the damn thing working!

this free monitor is turning out to be not so free

Especially when other sites will give you an actual Plasma TV where you dont have to invest additional money.

skooter22c

21-01-2006 20:20:54

I don't really need a receiver but I di need the tuner, the wall mount (which I found on Ebay for $75) and speakers, I already have a DVD player. I was considering the Boss Cinemate, which is a 3 speaker system without a full receiver. Just a receiver big enough to send a signal to the speakers, the receiver is about the size of a box of matches and only has two front speakers that sound like surround sound. Just a thought for me.

Are you guys idiots!!!!

If you have a cable box like most people do like comcast or digital cable or direct tv then there is your tuner. Also go buy a surround system for $200 at a store and you have a sweet setup. You prolly spend $20 on the offers anyway so quit complaining

Wolfeman

22-01-2006 01:30:22

I agree with the tuner thing, not really a big, but I don't have or want surround sound right now. I don't have the money or the space to put a 5.1 system. It doesn't matter if I spent $20 or $200 on offers, they should send what they said they are going to send, a plasma [b9cae942fd3]TV[/b9cae942fd3]. If I knew it was a monitor I would've gone after another gift maybe...

Eric P

Gigante

They are actually required by law to provide the advertised item. The only ones they are actually cheating are their consumers, because they could get a much better TV for the same price or less and make everybody happy.

They aren't selling anything, they're giving you a free gift. If your grandma promises you an Xbox360 for your birthday, but gives you a pound of sliced ham, you can't sue her for bait and switch. While you are completing a promotion, you still aren't buying anything, and they can send what they want.

The item in the picture might be the plasma people are getting but its hard to tell because monitors don't have much to distinguish themselves and the pic isn't high quality. What matters is the description and title is a TV with speakers...

srichter, you are only half right there. Your grandma might have offered you the xbox but decided to get you something else; hoever, she did not say if you take out my garbage, due my erands and mow my lawn then you will get the xbox. She is stricktly giving you a gift not a reward. We are being rewarded for completing tasks and it is because we complete these tasks that YFdirect or whichever web site gets paid money for. This money is then used to buy the rewards we asked for. I know their TOS have small print about changing the gifts but it does not mean they can falsely advertise the reward they are offering. If this wasn't the case then they would not send a check for the equivalent value when the reward is not available. It is a gray area and we can only ask for it to be cleared up. I am not talking about sueing for false advertisement but I don't think we are in the wrong to ask them them to honor their advertisement. Thats all.

This is not a "Gift", it is earned income. That is why on RV and metarewards sites we must fill out tax forms and it is classified as earned income. I do not have a cable box or satelite, and i am going to college, where I will also not have either of those, so I will have to spend several hundred $ to get it hooked up to where I can watch TV on it. I feel like I shouldn't have to spend an extra $300-$400 just to get a TV that can be useable. I allready have a 28" TV, so I could have got something else instead if that is what they are sending. I will be calling to see about this. Because I would like a TV that I don't have to have all sorts of other things to get it to work as a TV. The thing that I see is that there loosing money on this they are paying you over 200 per offer and they definetly aren't making that.

This is one of few sites that really are a gift because they take a loss on it if you complete it.

If every one starts complaining they are more likally to raise the offer req(like nuitech did). Or remove the item completely so quite complaining and think wow I'm paying under 150 and getting a 1500 dollar tv!

skooter22c

nick e if you really believe that statement it is time to go back to school. They are not loosing a dime doing this stuff. Everything is about the money, if they were loosing money they would say to everyone who completes the site, sorry the item you have requested is not available here is $200 check for you. Thank you. But no when an item is not available they actually send a check for the retail value.....you DON"T do that in business if you are going to loose money, especially if the items you are sending out are "FREE" And there you have it!

I'm on your side that they should send a Plasma TV, but they lose money when they ship a gift. The way they make money is by people who don't ever follow through with the completion steps to receive a gift... When they send a plasma, The receipient is going to tell everyone... as soon as I get my gift, within a week i'm sure everyone in my school will be asking me about it, and want to know where I got it... I will tell them where and tell them the forums i chat about it on, lots of them will sign up and may complete a few offers, but 90% of them will never get a gift... so YFD pockets a lot of money from them, but from me they lose money for sending me a gift...

are you sure those are the only inputs? if its the model people have been telling me then there should also be some otehr inputs like component and such, thats not an awful lot for being a 42'' plasma. and yea 60,000 hours is better viewed as 8 hrs per day for over 20 years. but then again who is going to keep it on that long and who really keeps their tvs for over 20 years?

editli reading over at scam.com i heard something that i didn't really think about before but knew i did it. do cheap vcrs have tuners in them? i know i have hooked my antenna before into a vcr and ran that to my tv and had regular tv that way, so could there be some way to do it with a vcr or a dvd player and those can be had for dirt cheap now. just hook antenna into dvd or vcr and plug those into tv via s-vid cable or whatever else it has then watch tv that way? sounds like a plan to me, now just for a cheap stand.

I still say you guys are arguing over a technicality that won't fly with anyone. I walked into best buy and asked to see their plasma TVs and they walked me right over to what you guys swear is a monitor. Should I sue Best Buy? No site could use the title "Free Plasma Monitor!" and have anyone understand that it's a real TV. I cannot believe the way you guys are all hung up over this, and how you're all fired up and going to call repeatedly (like some have said) and make a big deal over this.

I'm really worried that some people won't get anything...

Luca, that is because what best buy carries is ready to watch tv, these monitors are not ready to watch. The tuner is a minor issue because most people have what they need. However the monito does not have speakers, therefore, if you do not have a stereo or surround sound then you have no sound and can't watch tv. So since they advertise a plasma tv with stereo speakers then they are misrepresenting themselves. Plain and simple.

do you think time warner cable will give me a tuner, or do I get charged for it?

DVI-HDCP and RGB/COMPONENT

I'm between classes right now and just wonderin really quick what these hook-ups allow you to use....I see these similiar to those of computer hook-ups....Am i to believe thats the only use or can anyone else help enlighten me..

igneous

23-01-2006 09:42:17

the rgb one allows you to use component cables so you can connect things like digital cable boxes, xbox, dvd players, etc..
DVI is similar, its just a digital connection, and depends on what your components have for output.

Alright. This is getting ridiculous. Either deal with the monitor and sell it. Most of us have cable boxes so who cares. For those that dont stop bitching, you spent little to no frickin money so please shut up.

If your going to call be nice with them.

kyks17

23-01-2006 18:34:24

i didnt get a chance to call, more customers came in and i ended up staying 2 hours longer...just in time to miss business hours by 15 mins.

i always planned on being nice to them when i would call.

tjwor

23-01-2006 19:54:23

yes, like I said before, I am not calling and yelling at them... I am calling to try to get them to send a different gift which is a better value than the gift they are currently planing on sending so I don't have to spend money on a tuner and speakers...

Anything wrong with that?

If they say no, i'm not going to get all mad even though it isn't what it states...

Gigante

23-01-2006 20:21:07

If you are going to bitch about people calling them, don't. You are speaking to the choir. We aren't calling them to yell or threaten them. I was actually calling to get my certs because they won't email correctly, and was going to ask about the tv while I had them. Telling us to not call is a waste of your time and ours because we will do it either way. We have Plasmas coming too, so not like you are the only one. I actually have 2 of the monitors and 1 panasonic pending from YFDirect.

Well, I got through to everyfreegift.com on the phone and asked them about a couple concerns I had for my account.

I asked about the Sony Plasma TV, and they said that what they're shipping is supposed to be the one advertised on the website (which says it has built-in stereo speakers), and that if I receive my TV from them and it turns out to not have any speakers, to give them another call and they'll sort it out.

But what I'm really hoping for is a check... )

After reading a lot of threads on the plasma, I think I'll just try for the 1K Cash Card.

I don't need a TV, and if I got one I'd just list it on eBay. And I don't feel like shipping a 100 lb package.

I started doing EFG's ibook that only has 6 offers.....5 of which I did yesterday. Im waiting on credit for those to come through and hey, who knows...I might hit up marketsurverygroups plasma.

Now that i think about it....I'd freaking love to have a plasma in my room. Kicks the crap out of this clunky 32 incher.

Just find a vcr with s-video or component out and it'll be decent quality. Its still not going to be amazing.
