[quoted9a4f792f9="Mr Sofa Sets"]This rule is pointless. I understand your concern for the fact that morons have been posting vulgar pics and such, but that is one of the problems with the internet. Please do not limit the functionality of this forum due to some idiot posting vulgar pics. It the issue is having to do with bandwidth or Web Storage, you sould pony up the cash for a better hosting plan. That is what the donation are for after all arent they?[/quoted9a4f792f9]

bandwidth shouldnt be a problem for sigs...i thought they were all on personal webspace(mine is anyways...) so its downloading the picutre from my webspace, not the freeipodguide server...anywho, the rule is dumb, take off resizing please!

people can still post nasty pictures, this just limits the size of them.

FWIW I'll contribute my $0.02 in and say I'd like to see it go also.

But I'll also play Devil's Advocate and toss out 2 common reasons for image resizing on message boards

1. Really big images can screw up the board formatting for folks. If somebody throws out an image that is wider than your horizontal resolution, it will widen the post width and cause you to have to scroll left/right to read messages. Also, if I'm not mistaken this phpBB resizer resizes ALL images on a page, not just sigs. Having said that, I doubt many people here surf at 640x480 or even 800x600, so limiting to 600x250 is pretty severe. I'd suggest if we must keep the resizer, increase the limitation to, say 800 wide and allow much more height.

2. People on dial-up, and yes there are still a surprising number of them, take forever to load a page with lots of big images (however I believe this particular resizer still loads the full-size image, it just scales at the browser). Of course in their case they should disable sig image loading in their profile, so this carries less weight than it used to when dial-up was most common.

If they want to limit the resolution of images fine, do so. But how about turning off the setting to resize EVERY image. If the image is smaller than the resolution limit, leave it alone. It should only shrink images, not enlarge them.

Well even more than that, it shouldn't make every image the same proportions as well. As someone else pointed out, if images were shrunk to their same ratio it wouldn't be such a big deal, but when a 100200 image goes to 600250 that's just silly.
