Has anyone found any good sites on how we will be able to take advantage of video capabilities on the PSP --- besides UMD? I realize that it's not a full-blown PVP, but I am interested in using it to play ripped DVDs via memory cards. I already do this on my iPaq and see more value in doing so rather than dropping more $$$ on movies that I already own.

I get bored easily with movies and don't like to watch the same ones over & over & over again. I would rather load a 512MB card with stuff and erase when it gets old.

Anyhow, just looking for good "informational" links on the PSP video capabilities.

BTW, I'm already sold from the games perspective. Gotta have GT4! It looks VERY cool!

Thanks!

If i remember correctly, the PSP supports playback of all standard MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and even MPEG-4 H.262 . This means you can rip dvds via XViD or DivX (as long as they are MPEG-4 compliant) and play them back through memory cards or exterior drives... since it has USB2 ports as well. From what i've read its just got a "video player" option and you can select where and browse either UMD disc or memory card. Weather this is true or not, im not sure shock . I hope it is though heh. If anything you can just grab some (s)vcd or dvd video, slap to a memory card and that should work. Since it's just like using the UMD but through another source.... hope this helps a bit.

Check out http//www.pspcrazy.com/ and goto the encoders section. As I've heard, 3GP is the best one available right now.

Edit This looks like a good tutorial.

i heard that Sony was going to release a software update, that includes web browser. that would be the shiznitz!!, since it already uses WiFi, web browser would be awesome.

Here's a good "How To", which shows you how to put video and DVD's on your PSP. http//www.engadget.com/entry/1234000980024404/

thehunter1320, I had the same problem when I loaded the page for the first time. Server error, but it worked when I refreshed. Very good article.

Chesyl, wanna buy a vowel for those acronyms? BTW, ROTFLMAO! P
