I'm getting $2500 in Apple Gift Cards from the Reward Depot soon, so price is not an issue here. I'm torn between choosing two things
1. The 13.3" Unibody Macbook @ $1599 ($1499 with student discount)
2.4 GHz
4GB DDR3 RAM (+$90)
320GB Hard Drive (+$67)
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M
2 USB 2.0 ports
MiniDisplay Port
2. The 15.4" Unibody MacBook Pro @ $2499
2.66 GHz
4GB DDR3 RAM
320GB Hard Drive
NVIDIA GeForce 9400M + 9600M GT (512MB)
3 USB 2.0 ports
1 FireWire 800 port
1 ExpressCard/34 slot
MiniDisplay Port
I'm upgrading from a white MacBook here =P
I can't decide on whether or not I need the bigger, more powerful laptop (though it is justifiable). I have it for personal use, involving schoolwork and editing film. I think I want a Pro, but the biggest concern is the Pro being a bit "too big" to carry around (though I've seen it countless times at the Apple Store and wherever and have played around with it). I know for a fact that I plan on loading up Left 4 Dead when I get it (on Windows, of course!) =P
Actually I think I've just talked myself into sticking with the Pro, even though getting a regular 13.3" MacBook will leave me enough Apple credit to get the third-gen iPhone when it launches along with an iPod Classic for my car and AppleTV. lol.

I have a 15" MBP, and it really isn't a hassle to take to class. I wish I had the money to upgrade, mine is getting a little outdated and begining to slow a bit...
I would not be suited well with the 13" because I enjoy having enough space when working with iweb to access things from my desktop and not have to move windows around off of the screen...

With my cards from Reward Depot I got the Macbook Pro with the slower CPU and smaller HDD, but upgraded to 4GB of ram. With the extra cash on the card I got a refurbished 160GB iPod and express shipping.
I also dual-boot with XP and it's a huge battery hog, around 130-200 compared to 5hrs+ on OS X.

I have to say I love my MBP (about a year and a half old now) but it is pretty big and heavy to carry around. I ride my bike a lot though.

If you are editing film then go with the mac book pro. The regular mac book doesn't have fire wire which many cameras use to transfer video.

No, but they do sell macs w/ windows, and they do sell that program so you can run PC programs on macs. So he should just buy a PC. D

I think that the point is that he has a gift card for the apple store, which means he can't buy a PC, he can buy the dual boot program...
BTW...
MAC>PC

I'm pretty sure that BootCamp is free when you buy a new Mac, I know it came with mine.

I'm late to reply but figured I'd do it anyway.
BootCamp is indeed free and allows you to run Windows NATIVELY (everything is supported and runs exactly as a PC would) and it'll be in your Applications/Utilities folder... and I give another vote for the 15." I think it's the perfect compromise between size and portability. I've owned numerous 13"s, 15"s and 17"s (thank you freebies) and a 12" iBook and 13" didn't quite cut it for me.
As for Mac vs PC... don't you know you're paying for "cool?!" I don't know about you, but I personally like being cool. It helps me sleep at night. wink
