Anybody going?

I want to go but the times for buses and trains down there won't get me there in time. (

Yea, I will probably watch it on my HDTV in HD with my little $12 antenna I bought from radioshack. Shit was cheap but picks up local HD/DT channels beautifully.

I don't have tickets but the city will be so nuts that the inauguration itself will probably feel like a minor event among the rest of the insanity.

The whole city is going to look like Times Square on New Years Eve (er, kind of). I might just try and hold a 15 hour bender, if I can't think of anything more [ia67e0f2331]respectable[/ia67e0f2331] to do. Not sure yet.

Oh my god guys, this city is about to explode[=http//www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28650363/]about to explode.

The only comparable thing I can imagine for the chaos this city is going to experience is, like, full-blown riots. Imagine less violent, less property-damaging riots with like millions of people involved.

Oh I can see it turning into a full blown riot. I am sure the cost of violence and property damage will be pretty high. Local area drug dealers should have a great couple of days.

No kidding.

D.C. is milking this for all it's worth, though..... for example, Metro tickets will cost [bba9fb106b4]$35[/bba9fb106b4] that weekend. (As opposed to $1.35 or whatever.)

Actually he got it right, Roberts administered it incorrectly so Obama gave him time to correct it.

I heard that the words need to be spoken EXACTLY as the oath is printed so Obama gave it again - in private. Now no confusion. He is sworn in.

Speaking of that, fox news argues that obama might not even be president..officially

dmorris68

23-01-2009 19:53:08

I read that the oath is mostly ceremonial -- the Constitution states the President-Elect officially takes office at 1200 noon on the day of inauguration, which is actually prior to oath being given. They just wanted to redo the oath to quiet the inevitable naysayers who will pick that nit to the bone. Apparently Fox News didn't get that memo, but who the hell cares what they say.

People need to quit watching "Fox News" they are like the Network News equivalent of "The National Enquirer"

Fox always has something negative to say, it gets viewers.

I think there needs to be a little bit of socialism in the country. Nothing radical, of course. ;)

[quote6847ee3de9="dmorris68"]I read that the oath is mostly ceremonial -- the Constitution states the President-Elect officially takes office at 1200 noon on the day of inauguration, which is actually prior to oath being given. Yeah, it's in the 20th Amendment

[quote6847ee3de9]Section 1. The terms of the President and Vice President shall end at noon on the 20th day of January, and the terms of Senators and Representatives at noon on the 3d day of January, of the years in which such terms would have ended if this article had not been ratified; and the terms of their successors shall then begin.[/quote6847ee3de9]
