Despite what everyone says, I think the falling economy is actually going to HELP us this year. Maybe now we can get back to what the holidays are supposed to be about -- spending time with your friends and family and being happy that you have them. Not who can get the biggest, best and most extravagant gifts.

I have three groups of people with whom we would all normally exchange gifts, but this year, we're all doing secret santas. And to push that even further, my group of best friends are doing Regiftmas Secret Santa. It's going to be way more fun than just getting a gift, saying "oh, cool, thank you" and being done with it.

We were getting far too materialistic as a society and and we were starting to lose our values and sense of what's important. I am excited for this holiday season, and the people that say they don't have enough money to enjoy the holidays are the ones that wouldn't know how to enjoy them in the first place.

Yeah, but all in all the economy is still going to make us suffer...

Unemployment rates are at 6.7% since that information was released yesterday...and it can be expected to go up to as much as 8.5% by the end of 2009. Biggest loss of jobs since 1974. Bush officially announced we're in a recession.

But...enjoy your holidays!

In a way you are right, but our wallets are shrinking. It's harder to pay for food, books, and general necessities. I do agree about this whole crazy materialistic society. I was a kid once, but now I understand what money means. I know how many hours my parents have to work for that $100 gift. I no longer ask for expensive gifts. I think as a society we should stop it with all these gifts. Everyone wants something, friends, co-workers, and extended family. Secret Santa is everywhere and it is getting ridiculous. You end up buying gifts for people you don't know. What happened to volunteering or sending a meaningful letter or card? Gifts don't convey the message that well all the time.

Everyone will be closer this holiday season, as the employment office gets more packed...

I think you're trying to make an after school special without much backing...

Do you work for Lifetime?

Dude, seriously, haven't you realized I spew forth verbal diarrhea on a pretty frequent basis?

Well actually, I do kind of feel that way though. I honestly feel like something's different from holidays now than it was back in the day.

The falling economy is due to the fact that the world can no longer support American's living styles and other countries are catching up.
