Oops... I broke my iPod

I was going to give my iguana a bath in the bath tub and I had the tub with a bit of water and my ipod in my shirt pocket. When I reached out to touch the water, it fell in the water but I quickly picked it up. It worked but then it started not working and now I can't really do anything with it.
Does the warranty cover this? Should I take the iPod to the apple store? What should I take with me, everything? Yeah I need help.

Take it apart and lay it in front of a hair dryer for a few hours. That worked on my flash player...not sure if it will with a HD player though.

So there's nothing the warranty can do?

Apple will not replace the Ipod since it broke as a result of your actions. If the Ipod was broken when you received it or broke for no apparent reason they would replace it for you. But if you go to the Apple store and they can see that the Ipod broke as a result of taking a dive into your bath tub, they wont help you.
Sorry. If you sell it on ebay you can still get a good price, not a full price but certainly more than $35.00. Or, you can try having it repaired. There a few places you can send it to for repairs but it may just be better to get a new one because most likely you will be charged once for a diagnostic test and then again for the actual repair.

Blah@warranty
It didn't completely submerge in water though. I would say that half the ipod got in there because there wasn't that much water. It still turns on but I can't get the click wheel to move and the buttons aren't working properly.
So maybe I should let it dry off for a couple of more hours?

Give it a day or two. When you've given it time, look online at http//www.ipodresq.com. Their services are pretty good. If the Apple Store can't fix it, try iPodResQ.

i read about what to do in a pcworld magazine. use a guitar pick and open the ipod. then lay it out without messing with it for 24 hours. and try not to turn it on or anything.

That's tragic. I don't know whether the standard warranty covers that. AFAIK, only the "applecare" plan would replace it for customer-caused troubles.
My condolences on your loss.

wow dude....the same thing happened to me with my mp3 player (not ipod, just a regular mp3player). I had it in my shirt pocket and i reached down to pick up something and it just comes SWOOSH out of my shirt pocket and hits the floor pretty hard, luckily nothing broke. hope your ipod will be ok.

my 1st gen ipod fell onto concrete sidewalk 3 times and it was still running...ironically, it died when it got jolted by lighting in the power outlet. pwned.

Once you have your iPod open you can pour rubbing alcohol all over everything to speed up the evaporation process. If the water didn't cause any shorts then the alcohol certainly will not. This is a trick commonly used on electronics that have become wet. It usually works like a charm. I would definitely recommend doing this since the iPod contains a HD that will certainly malfunction eventually if even the smallest amount of water gets inside. The alcohol will suck it all up into the air.

It's okay I let it dry without touching it for a day and overnight too and my brother tried it out this morning and it started working again. I guess it just needed to dry out. I'll never trust my shirt pocket again. Thanks to those who actually tried to help. I read the limited warranty and it said it didn't cover accidents like those. But I guess this scare taught me a lesson.
