There are only 16-24 iPhones coming to a local AT&T store and I've got my friends planning about camping out. lol Anyone else got similar plans?

I'm thinking of going a little early before the 800 AM opening time but just find that a little crazy. (However, I did camp out for the Wii, so...heh) There are only 8 8GB ones coming to this particular store so I'm trying to get a feel for how early I should get there... Any suggestions?

Note It's not that I can't wait and I'm THAT big of a fanboy but I'm going on a trip for two weeks on Saturday and I suspect it will be a nice travel companion. That and those apps looks sweet on iTunes!

you mean you aren't already there?

if it were me and i wanted one, i'd go between 530-6 only because i'm an early bird and i'm usually up anyways. plus i don't mind waiting and make the best of it by bringing treats for others who may be in line.

if you go early and there isn't a line, you can always hit a mcdonalds or something else close by so you don't look like a goob.

I actually work third shift in a shopping center right next door to a new AT&T store (so, hopefully not a lot of people know about it). I don't get off till 730 am, but I plan to walk right next door and get in line (assuming there is a line) to get one.

Lanch party? How would it be better if it said lanch party? Easy booster-seat nobody cares about this party anyways. lol Sorry, I just watched that episode.

Mmm...McGriddle. When exactly is the launch? I might drive by the local Apple or AT&T store to see if there are any fanboys in line.

Yayyy I got my 16 gig. But activating it has not been so easy. Traffic over iTunes is so bad, I can't even connect to the activation network. I guess I'll wait it out.

My local store had just over 100 total phones. I got there at 750, left after noon. Yeah thats over 4 hours. But whatever. Seems so worth it now that its over.

Good lord its just a phone, it makes phone calls and text messages. Maybe im to old school to understand but if i wanna surf the web i use my laptop. I can store all the porn and music that i want. I guess the downside is i have to use this thing called a mouse to use it.

If you're never owned a smartphone and an iPod, then it's no surprise if you fail to understand the attraction. But you mention using a laptop -- do you not now appreciate the convenience of the laptop compared to being chained to a desktop? The paradigm shift and resulting gain in mobility with moving from laptop to smartphone is simply a further extension of that. I use a desktop where practical, and a laptop where more power and mobility are required, but I lialwaysli have my phone with me. Having the freedom of doing almost anything on it you can do on a full-blown computer is quite liberating. I've been using network enabled smartphones for years and could never see myself with a regular phone again. Plus the iPhone combines an iPod, so that's one less thing I have to carry around with me. Convergence is sweet. )

Jesus. I went by the local Apple store just to check out the phone. There was a line of about 50 people outside, just to GET IN. This was around 130PM. It looked pretty empty inside though roll I might try another day -D

I had 1300 people at my apple store and the power went out at 8am exactly. I didn't even try. I'm in grand rapids so I'll try and get one tomorrow.

Not to brag but I was lucky enough to get it. Had to go at like 630 AM and was the fifth person there out of 8 total 8 GB's.

I love the phone, it has been so awesome. I had an older Blackberry in the past that I would rank a close second and then a Tilt. I can tell you, this thing beats the crap out of my Tilt. I know Samz is going to see this and go crazy but the iPhone, for work and play, has been so much better for me at least personally.

My top apps

- Zenbe - free
- AOL Radio - free
- Box Office - free
- SportsTap - free
- iPint - free - just cool to show off to friends, haha
- HoldEm (Poker) - $4.99 - worth every single penny

Thinking of buying Super Monkey Ball soon because I have a long trip in store for me. Anyone bought it yet?

Thanks for backing up my presumption on iPhone vs Tilt. I had the 8125 and loved it, and was a huge Tilt fan until they actually released it with the problems it had. I've since decided to ditch WM and go with an iPhone 3G myself, but I'm not going to stand in line for it. When they put it back up on their website for order, I'll probably get it then.

This is sweet but I CAN NOT wait until they have video chat on the future iphones.

They have the technology, they may just need higher cellular phone connection speeds but its ALL THERE!

Wise choice, my friend. I read a review that put it best about the Tilt, the Tilt does a lot of things but it doesn't do anything especially well. It's got the touch screen, the clickwheel, the full keyboard but none of which integrate together well.

I had the Tilt for two months and it was terrible the first few days but once I figured out how to boot it without the AT&T crap on there it got a little better. So if you are set/stuck on the Tilt for whatever reason, do that.

But yeah, I was thoroughly convinced the iPhone was too much of a play phone and I would not be able to run my business from it but the past few days it's been great. Email and the browser are great and the keyboard isn't as bad as people criticize it to be.

It really does seem like a phone for the business person and not for the average person. Do you agree with that?

Could you give me some info on it. Ive been wanting to know... If I bought one, without a plan(tell me if thats allowed) can I use wifi and ipod and stuff, just no phone and texting, or do you need the plan for the ipod, and videos and wi-fi. I have a touch, and I dont need a special thing to go online. Just curious, cause If its cheap to buy this, I could sell my touch, you this like my touch until I get a plan, then have both. Please reply. Thanks! Also... How much do they cost 8gig= $$???? 16gig=$$$$????

Ummm... the camera faces away from the phone... so a face to face video chat would be kind of difficult...

I don't believe you can get an iPhone without at least a voice plan, at least not until AT&T starts selling the full-price, no-contract iPhones (at $499 for 8GB and $599 for 16GB), which they aren't doing yet. With the 2-year contract the 8GB is $199 and 16GB is $299.

You can however (unless they changed the terms with the 3G launch) get one without the data plan. They did change some contractual terms with the 3G I think, so I can't swear that the data plan is no longer mandatory.

17-07-2008 10:30:04

Does it accept other plans? Like... does it have to be at&t, can it be verizon or other networks??>?

Zags1199

17-07-2008 13:13:52

It can't be Verizon. Their networks are different. It can be used on T-Mobile though if you use certain software, I believe.

puppeteer

17-07-2008 13:37:15

iPhone 3G can only be used on AT&T not unless if you unlock it... the iPhone dev team are working on it and they will be releasing the Pwnage tool 5days from now

iPhone 3G requires a voice plan and a data plan, it cannot be used on prepaid, the lowest individual voice plan is $39.99 and the lowest family voice plan is $59.99, data plan is $30 for unlimited txt, internet, picture msg and etc...

If you are on T-Mobile... and you want to get out of your contract to switch to other carrier without paying Early Termination Fee.... now is the time to do it before 8/29/08

T-mobile is increasing the msgs rate from 0.15cents to 0.20cents, according to their policy, this is materially adversed to your situation and you may cancel your contract without ETF.

If you have a current TXT msging plan, cancel it then call back in 3 weeks
