I'm looking into buying a sport bike, and I found one that has a salvaged title. I know this means the bike has been wrecked, but this one was rebuilt and runs and all. Is the only thing this means is that it was in a accident, or can you not get full coverage on it for insurance, etc. Also, if it matters i'm in Michigan.
Thanks.

I dunno about Michigan, but it is a pain in the ass to get a motorcycle registered in PA if it has a salvage title.

I bought a car with a salvage title but the owner rebuild it like new it passed the government inspection and the salvage title was removed and it runs like a charm (bought it in June last year)

Generally a salvage title vehicle is much less reliable than a new one, which is why it costs much less. People tend to do shitty jobs on totaled vehicles and it can cause problems in the future...

If it is someone who does salvage repairs for a living I would be more apt to trust them, but some kid in a garage that decided he wanted to rebuild a salvage bike, stay away. Just make sure you know what you are dealing with.

As far as insurance I have never heard of not being able to get full coverage because of a salvage title, but i guess I could be wrong shrug

But overall a salvage title just means that it was in an accident and the insuranace company decided that to repair the vehicle it would cost more than the vehicle is worth. It could have been something that wasn't a major deal, but was just expensive parts, ie- fairings, lights, handlebars, gas tank would probably be enough to make it salvage if it was not a brand new bike when wrecked.

Bikes are a blast! Just find the right one and do your research, dangerous but very fun!

Ya, the guy i'm buying it from bought it from another guy who rebuilt it. I'm assuming hes had it for a little while atleast and it ran. Only 1 picture of it and it looks good, going to try and get more. I've got 3 grand I'm trying to spend on a decent 600 bike.

I know if it was a car, I wouldn't buy it at all... but for a bike, I don't think its too bad.

You can get a bike w/o a salvage title for 3 grand and it will be nice. Check craigslist. That is usually pretty good.

No because bikes get totaled really easily because insurance companys look at that price of new parts like ferings and stuff and they are expensive and you can pick them up cheap on ebay.

I've checked craigslist for the past 3 months lol, for not only michigan, but indiana, ohio, and illinois too lol. I've found some nice ones... but nothin that I really liked for 3 grand. Now for 4 grand there are some nice ones.

Just take some time with it and be patient. I picked up a bike dirt cheep. And I at the time I was 18 and a dumbass so I ended up selling the bike before I even rode it (although my dad did) because I just wasn't comfortable with a ZX-1100 after only riding my friends bike a couple of times. But then after I grew up a little a picked up a 250r with a bluebook of $1800 for $900.

Take your time and look around and chances are there will be a really good deal if you just wait around. People are always needing to sell bikes because they need money for somthing. And their loss is your gain. I mean you might have to wait a while, but it will happen.

I'm looking for a 600. I love the gsx-r, but dunno. Something around a 2000 600cc that looks nice is what i'm looking for. Found one for $2500 earlier today, emailed the guy for more pics, if all goes well might be takin a small road trip this week to pick it up.

My brother purchased a few two years ago.
His first bike was a Katana which is like 600 cc's which I think he got for around $5000.
The second one he bought was an SV650 which was around $5500 that he got just so his friend had one to ride.
His third bike was a GSXR-1000 which by the way had a salvage title.
That one I think was like $6500 or something.
That one flew.

He ended up selling them all when he was buying a house though.
They sure were sweet.

I'm in Muskegon, Michigan for the summer. A few of my friends have them, but they all paid atleast 5 grand for them, and I don't quite have that much to spend.

Im looking for either a gixxer or a cbr myself. For 3k you should be able to find a decent one without a salvage title. Definitely keep your eye out on craigslist, thats what i've been doing for the past month. Their are some sick deals on that site.
