Not that beer's not serious D

Let's hear your favorites.

I'm on a serious Sam Adams kick right now. I can't get enough. (wow i sound like an alcoholic)

I just found this "brewmaster's collection." It has 6 flavors Boston Lager, Black Lager, Brown Ale, Scotch Ale, Honey Porter and Irish Red.

The Scotch ale is pretty rough, and the Boston is not a favorite of mine, but the Black and Brown are simply amazing and the Honey Porter and Irish Red are interesting, but also very very good.

White ale is a tasty seasonal brew, out of a bottle it is good, but draft is superb. So many flavors, so little time.

I used to only drink light beers. Then I took my skirt off and realized that there was a whole different world out there.

What are you guys into?

man, yeung ling or however the hell you spell it is really good stuff. It sucks because I live in mass and they don't sell it up here, however the company I work for is based in Philly, and we have some people from there that work with who've introduced me to it. It's awesome. The Black and Tan rocks my socks D

I like most beers, but I usually stick to the cheap american beers when I go out.

Little know fact, Natty Light and Michelobe Ultra have the same amount of calories.

Belgians and Colorado microbrews...Chimay (Belgium), Maudite (Canada...Belgian-style), anything Avery (Boulder, CO).

Porters and stouts...I prefer Guinness Extra Stout to the standard stuff. Imperial stouts are good. There's some new up-and-coming Irish stout called O'Meara's or O'somethin' or other that was very good.

Dogfishhead 60- and 90-minute IPAs are good. For ales, Rogue Dead Guy is good.

Off topic, 267 chili-pepper-infused tequila is pretty sweet too...

What exactly is a microbrew? I just got into real beers. I've had some Magic Hat, Opa Opa and dogfishhead and they were so-so. But what is a microbrew?

I want to start trying some imports too. I'm going to try some of the things you listed D

Magic Hat #9 FTW!

Best beer I've ever had? A pint of Guiness at a pub in the UK, while watching the Chelsea/Manchester game. Other favorites.... Stella Artois, Killians, Leinenkugel's.

And a micro-brew is just a small brewery.

Yes. I meant that I like Avery Brewing Co. and Left Hand. And New Belgium is good too (owned by Coors now)

So once I get off the Sam's, what's the next thing you guys recommend?

Keep in mind I'm trying to budget. If I can keep it under $10 a 6-pack, I'll be good.

Check out some of the ones I suggested above. Most of them (the Belgians anyway) do not come in 6-packs; they come in larger bottles, generally corked. They range from $6-$11, but they are higher alcohol content anyway. You can find the ones I listed at Trader Joe's and most fine liquor stores.

Ah, okay cool. So it's like a growler type thing then? I've had the BBC, but that's nothing too impressive.

I'm going to go for some Rogue Dead Guy, that sounds fun.

EatChex89

19-03-2008 18:53:56

Guinness is some damn fine beer, I like the stout version.

Heineken is also pretty good. I used to like Corona, but it's so-so. Budweiser, bud light, miller, and all that shit is too Americanized. Fat tire is pretty good too.

I do NOT like Sam Adams it's just too rough for me.

I drink Miller Lite religiously... Then at times when I want booze on the cheap (which has been quite often), I settle for Milwaukee's Best Ice. MGD is also another great tasting beer. I'd say just about every brand from the Miller lineup is a winner. As for imports, I love Becks & Heineken.

As for beers to avoid (that were previously mentioned)...

Budweiser (That stuff is shit. Rice in beer? No thanks. If the hangover weren't bad enough...).

Corona (Nothing but piss water. If you want an authentic mexican beer, drink Pacífico).

The rest of the above mentioned are alright.

I forgot to mention my very first beer... Rainier. (I'm not sure if they still make it anymore (at least its not sold where I live). I know that the brewery was shut down in Seattle.

That beer will always have a place in my heart. It was truly an experience to be a part of.

I'm here, I'm here.

Beer-as a college student, all I see is Keystone Light and Natural Light, maybe some Busch Light here and there. If I'm buying it, Busch Light isn't terrible for a 30 rack ($14.99 here), but I definitely prefer Coors Light or Heineken.

Hard liquor-again, it's all cheap stuff (Kamchatka vodka, $10.99/handle, various flavors), though sometimes I splurge on Jager or Absolut (regular, but I recently got a bottle of Mandarin and that's really good).

yeah.
